    As a tac, I am currently building my Daeinos beam beast, and wanted to hear your thoughts on that. (so far, planned, thoughts, rather not)

    Weapons:
    Fore: Antiproton Beam Arrays XII
    Aft: Omni-directional APBA, Antiproton Beam Arrays XII, Cutting Beam

    Consoles:
    Eng: Assimilated Module, Zero Point Energy Conduit, [?]
    Sci: Dynamic Tactical System, Plasmonic Leech
    Tac: Antiproton buffs, Vulnerability Locaters

    Equipment:
    Shields: Fleet (Resilient [Cap]x2 [ResB] [Adapt]) Shields
    Deflector: Fluidic Counter Assault
    Engines: Romulan prototype impulse engines
    Warp Core: crap (no idea)

    The Borg set is more defensive than it is aggressive, depending on what you want to do, if it's damage you are after, I would suggest looking at Darks thread for Engine/Shield/Deflector located here and see if that helps.

    I am however not sure how the Daeinos works with beams, it seems like cannons might be a better approach, but with a 3 aft ship, I wouldn't have the cutting beam and the 360 AP beam, it should be one or the other in most cases. Beam boats are often suited for broadsiding, that's where their strength comes in.

    Thanks for Dark's thread - made all clear concerning DD, engines and shields.

    As to the beam vs. cannon thing. Maybe its turn rate is good for cannons, but oh, it's so much fun with those beams. I'll have to think about this. Besides, the turn rate still keeps my beamboat alive much longer, so it's not completely wasted.


    PS: better using the cutting beam for two-set bonus, since I cannot use the other obelisk items on that ship, right? However, with those Locaters with AP bonus... Hum, don't know. Might be better, since I could save the dil for the cutting beam then.

    Since you're not getting the AP set bonus and are going with broadsides, there's no reason to use the set's beam turret if it's inferior. I can't recall if it actually is weaker than a normal AP array, so double-check before you toss it. I love the KCB though, what else would you use against AAs?

    For your Singularity Core, it should be an [AMP] core of whatever style you want.

    BOFFs:

    You don't want a second HE at the cost of your second TT. Optimal DPS requires not having Distribute Shields in your standard rotation (because it interrupts firing cycles), so having TT fire off every 15s is rather important.

    Your Engineering layout is rather unconventional, are you having trouble keeping your hull or shields up?

    Personally (and this is why you can't/shouldn't ignore DOffs) for that engineering station layout I'm using three DCE DOffs so I can have just one copy of EPtW1 and EPtS1, while still having both at 99.9% uptime. Then I have DEM1 x2 (fire it off with APO3) and Aux2SIF2 (constantly firing off to up my hull resistance and heal me).

    Also, it's usually recommended to have APO3, FAW3, APB1 as opposed to APO3, APB2, FAW1.

    I haven't replied to a build thread in a while but I might as well... had a break at work.

    AA - aceton assimilator

    If you're trying to do DPS, you should have EPtW and supplement that with 7x beam arrays and 1x KCB. The omni-directional AP is good if you use the warp core and are not able to achieve at least 75 power in at least 3 systems. The 2-set gives a flat 10% dmg bonus to AP while the amp core will do slightly less with 3 power levels above 75%. If only 2 power levels are above 75, then the core/omni 2-piece are hands down better for you. I'm also assuming you have Superior Rom Operatives as your bridge officers and 1 Sup Infiltrator?

    Since you're not running an aux2batt build, I'd go with TSS as the shield heal is bigger and gives you good resistance.

    The dynamic tac system console is, IMO, gimmicky. You're going to lose aux and shield power and give up a console that would likely be more useful. As a console setup assuming you're not the fleet version:
    Sci: -Th Flow Caps, 1 shield heal and 1 hull heal proc
    Eng: assimilated, zero-point, plasmonic
    Tac: AP locators x4

    As for a boff layout assuming you get 3x DCE to reduce CD of your emergency powers, otherwise get 2 copies of EPtW1. If you get a Zemok (reduce CD of attk patterns), you have one open tac spot.

    Tac 4: TT1, open, APB2, APO3
    Tac 3:TT1, BFAW2, BFAW3
    Eng1: EPtW1
    Eng 2:EPtS1, RSP1
    Sci 2: HE1, TSS2

    Alternatively you could run this but would need 2x energy doffs that reduce beam special attacks and a zemok but no DCE's since you effectively cycle them.

    Tac 4: TT1, BFAW2, APB2, APO3
    Eng 3:EPtW1, EPtW2, DEM2 or if you're worried about hull healing: Eng 3:ET1, ET2, DEM2 then figure out if you want to use EPtW or EPtS below.
    Eng1: EPtS1
    Eng 2:EPtS1, RSP1
    Sci 2: HE1, TSS2

    One thing you should keep in mind for a build is the doff cost. Zemoks are expensive, DCE's are not too bad and same with the beam CD ones. While you don't need to keep your attk patterns at or near global, it does boost DPS. I'd also put up your proposed build here http://www.stoacademy.com/tools/skillplanner/ so it's easier for others to critique and suggest build options.

    @Arkainjel: Pssst, the Daeinos can't mount the set Warp Core (because it takes Singularity Cores).

    @Mutant-Enemy: Listen to Arkainjel, I believe he's got the top DPS record in UFP right now.

    Aceton Assimilators are immune to (or rather, they take 1 damage from) energy weapons. They emit wave/pulses of damaging energy in response to getting hit by energy weapons. (I think they also have some sort of defensive effect on those who deploy them?) They're available to players, but the Voth enemies have an annoying tendency to throw them about.

    Back to OP:
    The Lt Cmdr slot affords you great flexibility. If you want more DPS, go tactical, if you want survivability, go engineering and grab DEM2, if you want to run NWS, go science and grab GW1, TBR1 and switch beams for canons =)

    Phew, that's a whole lot of information, and much to ponder upon for me. That being said, I really appreciate your investing so much thought and time into this thread. S'ppose a round of bloodwine or Romulan ale would be the appropriate thing in the near future. Thumbs up

    I will decide on a layout the next couple of days - or more like weeks really. Holidays acoming, I'll not be online as much as the past few days. However, as soon as I find the time, I'll let you know about my decision. And then the farming may commence. Oh, this is going to take much time I should spend differently.     I know how you feel. Both Dark and I have spent endless hours reading up on builds, mechanics, testing etc to find out what works and what doesn't. What I found helpful was making note of the boff seating for various ships then playing with what I can put in there. You can do this over lunch, during a break, maybe even in the bathroom if you're desperate! Bottom line, be patient and take your time.

    I just recently decided to make a hull tanking ship just because I wanted to troll people. The build isn't done but does surprisingly well. I can hold aggro against people doing more than 20k DPS whereas I'm pulling 3k. It took me several weeks to narrow down the ship, boffs, and doffs to ultimately commit to the build. It's not an easy process, even more people that live and breathe this stuff. While I have another ship that tanks 10000 times better, I find it enjoyable to purposely pigeon-hole myself creating a bigger challenge for me when I play.

    My wife thinks I'm crazy but can appreciate the level of detail I put into this, even if it's only a game.\

    Oh, if you're having trouble getting fleet marks, why not go romulan plasma? You can get +Pla science consoles with -Th, you get the experimental beam which costs 0 weapon power, you get the disruptor proc debuff and the plasma burn proc, you get the 2-piece romulan set (beam + zero-point), and all you need is dilithium. This weekend you should find it easy to get dil, and frankly, it's 100 times easier to earn IMO.

    Unfortunately it's actually the weekends when I haven't got much time. My wife and I live apart from each other right now because of our jobs, so we only have weekends for ourselves. They're sacrosanct, so to say. Of course, all that weekend relationship stuff may change over the next year, but who knows. Most of the time, she accepts my fancies as well anyways, as long as I still spend enought quality time with her. Smile

    There's my current build (hope it works - doesn't stop loading here right now). I'm working on the deflectors/engines/...

    I have three purple DEM doffs now (cooldown emergency power abilities).

    My boffs are four purple Nausicaans, one purple Romulan.

    As you can see, I've changed back to plasma. Also working on cutting beam, zero-point, ...

    Is the hydrodynamics compensator worth it as well? (Accuracy, engine and aux power levels, flight turn rate)

    So far, it's runnin smoothly. I deal significantly more damage and still survive. Thanks for that. Big Grin


    PS: As soon as I'm promoted: singularity core or locators (or weapons?) first?

    I would recommend locators first since they will give your the biggest immediate dps boost.
