Naming the colony

Now that the simm is underway its time to name the colony. I have decided to put up this thread to allow people outside the colony to propose and discuss names before we go through the in character process which will only involve The population on the colony.

I propose the name Legacy Colony in honor of the starbase we came from.

I will say that "Legacy Colony" is catchy, although would that be too much "Legacy"? The unstable wormhole is called the Legacy Wormhole, and the Starfleet group assigned here is called Task Group Legacy. So while it sounds great, we might overuse the word.

What about something around the Vigilant? "Vigilance Colony" or "Camp Vigilance" or "Fort Vigilant" or something? Remember we still have Outpost 42 attached from starfleet, so going with a Fort/Camp naming would not be out of the question.

Or what about something revolving "new"? Aurora (dawn) or Jubar/Iubar (radiance)?

Considering the planet just has an alpha-numerical designation at the moment, I think we need to look at the idea that whatever name is given to the colony would also most likely eventually become the name of the planet itself, and possibly the whole star system.

With that consideration in mind, although Legacy or Vigilant are catchy ship or base names, they don't quite have the ring I'd expect for a star or planet name.

I'd suggest something like Cleio, after the Greek Muse of history, or Calliope, after the muse of epic writings ( ) if we wanted to keep with the sentiment behind the Legacy name.

Agreed, that is my intention also. Whatever the members choose will become the name for the whole (currently unnamed) planet, and it will be permanent. If we get enough good suggestions we'll set up a poll in this thread to see which wins out.

Calliope has a nice ring to it. So I think Calliope and Aurora are good options so far? Neither are used in other Trek likenesses (Aurora was a starship, but nothing major). I'm sure there are other options as well, like Legacy as Jon said above.

I'm actually partial to Calliope, now that we've thrown it around a bit. But while the "Calliope System" sounds nice, "Calliope Colony" sounds weird. Might have to think about that angle as well.

Of course, I'm not an official player yet, so who cares what this grump thinks.

Hi All!
A freshly minted Petty Officer 3rd Class here, so I'm a newbie to UFP, but I've done a SIMM or two elsewhere.

Having said that I would like to toss out my suggestion for the Colony and Outpost. Since the Star ship associated with the colony & outpost is the USS August what about one of the below as a tribute:

"Augustus" as the Colony and "Outpost Augustus", "Fort Augustus" or "Augustus Base" as the name for OP42?

If you like any of those, great, if you don't that's fine as well but if any of those suggestions really cause any of you to want to vomit, well... er...

Indeed, it's where I got the name about 10 years ago when the first version of the August appeared in my simming rings. Don't think we'd want the ship and colony named too similarly, at least in my opinion. But good suggestion.

Glad to have you on board. I hope you find a home on the simm - they need some new life for sure!

I think I might just have to slip in and say that this is the name of the Colony, not the Outpost, the Outpost will keep it's designation.

I'm gonna toss My opinion into the pile. I like the name Aurora, And i think adding Fort, or Camp, makes it sound like it's a purely military outpost.

I live in Aurora So I would love to see that colony name Aurora so I can pretend I live there.
