Browsing Reddit earlier tonight, I found a story which I found particularly interesting. With 160,000 dollars and an abandoned McDonald's, a group of former NASA employees and volunteers are conducting research using a derelict NASA satellite.

I've been following that for a few weeks now, It's amazing how well NASA built that little probe. They were originally going to try to put it back in orbit but when they were finally able to get access to the systems they discovered that there was a fuel problem. Good thing these guys are resourceful, they did some trickery and got the engines to fire, Scotty would have been proud. But they are unable to get it back into stable orbit so they are going to let it fly back into interplanetary space and collect data from there.
