I was about 10 or so when voyager started so I got into it. Just kind of became a habit for me. I never finished it though. Now that it is on netflix I am powering through the series and it's so amazing to watch it older now that I understand it more!

I was about 5 years old and the 9 O'Clock news had ended. So this was back in 1990 / 1991 roughly, I've had a few beers since then, so the dates are a bit fuzzy. But my dad channel surfed and turned it onto the local Fox station and that was when I saw the Enterprise for the very first time cruising under impulse power on the screen. I didn't know what the show was but I would come to know it very well as I grew up.
I remember being a small boy and watching episodes of TNG with my mom after the news ended. I thought it was cool that I was able to stay up late and I also fell in love with Trek. In the second grade I had a S1 / S2 Starfleet Uniform that my grandmother made as a Halloween Costume. I recall wearing it a couple of times to school through the year. I also received my first buzz cut due to the fact I tried to give myself a Jean-Luc Picard haircut. Ironically I'm now 28 and well on my way to sharing the Captain's hairline.
TNG was the series I grew up with. It's the series I always come home to and I am always happy to see the cast get together for photos and conventions. I hope to see a new series that continues the time line that I grew up with. That's Trek to me.

My parents loved the original show, but it wasn't until I got my own with TNG that I could call it my own. But I think that's how it works for everyone. They need to find their own.
...even Voyager.

My first contact was with V'ger, I watched all TOS movies and I liked them but I didn't get hooked at the time. TNG got me a little bit closer, it paved the way... and then, it was DS9 that really got me. That was the first time when I was really able to see myself completely in the Star Trek... and I've been a Trekkie since then

My folks never fail to remind me whenever a new 'trek comes along that they brought me to see the first Star Trek movie at a drive in theatre when it premiered, and also never fail to ask how much I remember (I was a couple months old and slept through the whole thing.)
I was a little older. My mom was a fan during the first run of TOS. I watched reruns with her on the local affiliates and even though they assure me that they took me to see TMP on it's opening night, I don't remember it. However, I do remember seeing TWoK and everything after it.
Trek has always been my first and favorite franchise and now I'm passing it on to a third generation. My daughter thinks it's all utter nonsense since she's ten years old now and "to cool for school.*" But, my little boy absolutely loves TAS. He's three and a half years old, so I'll introduce him to TOS in about another year.
Edit * - She may think it's utter nonsense, but she made a fantastic present for my birthday. She researched the Vulcan language and came up with enough info to make me a coffee cup and t-shirt that say "Best Dad Ever. Live Long and Prosper" printed in Vulcan script.

I had seen TOS on TV in the late 70's, early 80's, but it was ST:TWOK that captured my interest. Especially the ship battles, which for their time and budget were well done. I'm not a Trekkie, and haven't seen every episode of every series, but I consider myself a fan.
