"The Tear - Pt 1"

The U.S.S Columbus began its mission into the Markonian Expanse. There first deep space assignment, the Federation is looking to move itself back on track to the main goals of Starfleet, exploring new life and going where no one has gone before.

Captain Griffith, after having his shoulder fixed by the Chief Medical Officer, ordered a staff briefing on the Expanse lead by Operations Officer Lt Commander Tallera. The senior staff were informed about the unknown nature of the Markonian Expanse. Vulcan science has suggested that through the ages the Markonian Expanse teemed with life, but this was logical speculation at best.

The Columbus dropped out of warp at the border between known space and the expanse. The Markonian Belt had to be navigated before the Columbus could make it through to the expanse. Tallera plotted a course and Helmsman Baltar took us through at one quarter impulse. Once the Columbus had made it through, the vessel was about to conduct some weapons tests, when suddenly a subspace tear ripped through space. Its shockwave damaged the warp engines and the long range communication systems.

The Columbus went to yellow alert, whilst Captain Griffith and Commander Khedair managed crisis control. With the engines offline and the comm array severely damaged, the Columbus was adrift in space. Whilst the repairs were taking place there was a fluctuation in the tear; a probe came through the rift and penetrated the Columbus' shields and hull with a scanning beam unlike any that had ever been seen. After it had finished the scan, the probe exploded.

After beaming the debris to the cargobay for research, a Klingon bird of prey de-cloaked. Answering our short range distress call, the Klingon ship J'untok sent other a Klingon engineer, Commander Jureth, to help assist Chief Odan with the repairs. Suddenly a torpedo came through the tear destroying the bird of prey. Followed by a large vessel; the Columbus still unable to warp was left in a dyer situation.
