After several discussions over the past couple of weeks, a new direction for the Community Relations Team has started to come together. Working off a proposal which was originally put forward by Three of Seven and worked on by members of the Community Relations Team and the Federation Executive Office, it is my pleasure to announce to the community the advancement of the UFP’s external affairs effort.

In the next few days, the Community Relations Team will be transitioning from the Federation Administrative Bureau and will become a new External Affairs entity. The External Affairs Team’s mandate will be to provide our community with the best representation across the internet. Working with other fleets and communities to bring to the UFP joint fleet events, whilst acting as a fully functioning recruitment entity; this body will be busy furthering the UFP’s presence throughout the Star Trek and gaming community. The new entity will work on bringing new ideas to the fold, including exploring a new method of strengthening our bonds with the community. Working to develop partnerships with other communities which can raise our global presence within the Star Trek Community.

The current embodiment of External Affairs, the CRT, will be transformed into a dynamic and sustainable entity which will endeavor to provide our community with the best representation that we have to offer. The current team members will be moving into roles which suit the needs of the direction which we will be moving in; working on creating enjoyable events for the members whilst being a driving force for our recruitment efforts. Furthermore researching new ways of extending our sphere of awareness and expanding our brand of community.

During this period of transition, I will be taking an active role in the implementation of our new direction for external affairs. Through this new role, I will temporarily become the Commanding Officer of this entity, ensuring that the correct foundations are set for my successor, who will then become a leading figure in shaping the direction of our external affairs policy, whilst I will take a supervisory and advisory role within this new team.

Since I will be taking a more active role in External Affairs for the foreseeable future, I must unfortunately withdraw from some of my other commitments. In addition to the Community Relation changes, FNS will also be undergoing a change in Commanding Officer. Since late March, I have been serving as the department's Commanding Officer. However with these upcoming changes, I will be moving to a supervisory role for FNS and the new external affairs entity, in addition to my FEO Responsibilities.

Effective immediately, Torinth will be taking on the role of the Commanding Officer of the Federation News Service. Torinth has been serving as the Executive Officer since May and has always been a driving force in ensuring the direction of our news service is on track. The dedication that he has shown to the position and to the department has been exemplary and I believe that he will become an even more important part of driving our communities news service. Moving forward, Torinth will be busy researching more diverse and effective methods of delivering our writer’s content, in addition to lining up even more exciting interviews with Cryptic Studios and other hot individuals or organizations in Trek.

I would like to personally thank the members of the Community Relations Team who will be going into this new era of external affairs with Cehus. It has been an honour to work beside them for the past year and to see how they have developed along the way. It’s been a bumpy road but I think that by the end of it we managed to make a lot of progress. This regeneration of the external affairs for the community is truly an exciting step. Moving towards expanding our external efforts and working to increase our community awareness is a great step towards advancing our goals for the future and I wish the team the best of luck.

On a more helpful note, I hope the past efforts aren't ignored. I was fortunate to have a great team that produced some of the best and most frequent Joint events as well as developing an department system cloned by a number of other communities. It'll serve you well to look to those involved back then for their input, if they aren't already involved.

It's always good to see positive change about. I wish Cehus and each member of External Affairs the best of luck! May they become a force to recon with and make the presence of our wonderful community known to every corner of the internet and the world. To quote the Borg "Resistance is Futile". Also Congratulations to Torinth for his promotion to Commanding Officer of the Federation News Service. This is well earned I'm sure.

With these changes I see growth and more opportunities for anyone hoping to get involved with the community's administration become a greater possibly with each shuffle and department growth. I would encourage anyone who is willing to apply themselve to a volunteer position to do so.

Hey Farron,

While this area will have some similar responsibilities to and is perhaps the spiritual successor to the SDC, External Affairs is going to have a much different mandate and end goal. We're going to be the eyes and ears of the UFP, representing our community to not just other gaming fleets, but to other types of communities. There's going to be a lot of different components to the role, including researching new and exciting ways to be collaborating with other communities on not just gaming but media as well. Over the coming months, you are going to begin to see some of these developments come to light.

In the end I'm happy, the areas we were responsible for back then appear to have suffered, at least from my perspective, and it was a little hard to watch after we were doing so well. I'm glad they'll be getting more attention.

Firstly I must say thanks, I joined FNS around about the same time as it's transition from FNN, I've seen it grow under the leadership of all of my predecessors, I simply hope that the Department can continue to grow and to flourish under my own leadership.

Diplomacy is something that I've had a hand in almost continually since joining the UFP, having worked in both SDC and the CRT I'm looking forward to seeing what this new entity will be capable of.
