I'm calling it quits at 55k. That's more than enough for any content in the game. Now to start working on getting my other characters to 60.

I don't know why, but I barely scratch 10k with most of my builds. And it's not like I've got bad gear either, mostly MkXII reputation or Elite fleet stuff. Problem with my Pathfinder drain build is it relies on momentary insane burst damage by dropping shields on a dozen enemies in a TR before firing off TS3 with Neutronic torpedoes. That thing is just OP in the right circumstances.

If you're using Mk XII VRs and not breaking 10k, it's time to look at your build and piloting.

That said, if you're talking about Science Ships specifically, you pretty much need 400 Part Gen and the Sci R&D trait to pull great damage out of it. I've seen a 35k Pathfinder build before where more than half of the damage is Exotic.

Let me break down that exotic damage: 7K is from the crafted torp, 4K from plasma burn from weapons. So of the 18k from exotic, only about 6k was from science abilities.

I think part of my problem is I like to keep builds close to what I think they would use in canon. So on my Guardian atm I'm just messing about with 6x Elite fleet phaser arrays and two torpedo launchers. A photon in the rear and the wide angle Quantum in the front. Just a sucker for things like that, for instance I hate running plasmas on anything else but my Romulan ships.
