Ooooh, Turk. I instantly recognized his face, but had no idea who "Donald Faison" was.

This is kind of like comparing Mythbusters to How It's Made and saying the latter is lame because it doesn't have enough explosions.

I don't have any words for this, his opinions are his own, but they are very silly, he is comparing apples and oranges here, the first Star Wars film had a much larger budget.

Memory alpha puts TOS at an average of $190,635 per episode for series 1, that's $5,719,050 for all 30 episodes compared to the budget for the first Star Wars film of $11,000,000.

Big difference, we are also talking 2 different decades.

With all due respect.

It's one thing having your own opinion, but it's a totally different animal to go and call someone else's fandom 'lame'. Hence the rather... biased article

Has there ever been a whale being transported from the past into the future - in a starship - in order so save earth in star wars? No. because in Star Wars, Earth is just the planet coffee comes from. That's why Star Trek is not lame. And that's why you can't compare them.

Curzon does kinda have a point, but this is a Trek community so we're normally expected to rush to it's defense.

... considering how many members of this community would love nothing better than to see many aspects of current trek-dom crash and burn (JJTrek, STO, etc), I find it kinda refreshing to see us charge in like the frickin virtual cavalry to protect our fandom.

... even if it s a bit childish in nature

He didn't really even mention the fandom, though, as far as I could tell. fandom of something is not the same as that something, so holding a negative opinion isn't the same as an attack on the fandom.

Now if we want to talk about Shatner's Get a Life Sketch, that's different.

Now that you mention it, as much as I enjoyed Star Trek IV, I find the concept behind the story to be extremely lame. Maybe it's in the crazy enough to work category.

On a side note *puts nerd hat on* there is no Earth in Star Wars as it takes place a long long time ago in a galaxy far away.

I'm a huge fan of Scrubs and Star Trek. At the end of the day Donald Faison is entitled to voice his opinion. Doesn't diminish my opinion of him at all. I disagree with him, but his opinion doesn't make him a bad person.

Seriously, I do agree with him about TOS, most of the episodes were pretty cheesy and lame but I suppose that's because it's 60's Television, everything was cheesy in those days Even TNG season one wasn't brilliant.

Star Trek is more widely known for it's morality subjects, bringing into question Humanity in it's current state, ethics etc. rather than pew-pew action. Though, It is nice when we do get action sequences.

I would like to quote Ian Mckellen on Star Trek when he said this 'Star Trek and Tolkien are not your run-of-the-mill entertainment. They invite the audience to think and be intriqued'

Of course, I still love both universes with the same amount of passion

Cool story - I once tried to watch an episode of scrubs. Then I realised that its just an unfunny pseudo-comedy TV programme which follows a far more pathetic formula than most sitcoms these days.
