Polling for SIMMS Interest

Greetings,

We are looking at interest in the SIMMS from both players who have had experience in taking part in SIMMS and new players who would like to give it a go. The purpose of this poll is to gauge interest, possible direction and allow you to post any additional feedback or suggestions you would like to share on the subject.

What are SIMMS?

SIMMS roleplay sessions are text based, using a platform called Nova and allow you to act out a crew member or civilian in a specific setting. With the senior person in the roleplay often being the GM (game master) and pushing the story forward, however everyone can contribute to the plot in their own way. If you have limited experience in text based roleplay, there are people who will be able to guide you in the right direction and offer assistance.

Those who might start out best are those who are strong writers, knowledge of Star Trek lore is not a requirement by any means. Although in some roles it can be a bonus to know a bit of backstory. Much of this will be available and if there are experienced players participating, you will pick up knowledge as you go. This all said, even those not strong on writing can take part too! It’s certainly a great opportunity to build up your writing skills.

I’m sure there might be some more questions from you guys, so if you want to ask them, by all means! If you are not sure about the SIMMS but would like to give it a try, what sort of features and support would you like to see? All feedback is important

With respect to your questions, my preference would have been to use the built-in polling feature (and also more likely get more responses) but here goes:

Canon seems to be the overwhelming response so far, so I shall follow up, for canon do you want it during an existing series (such as TNG timeline) or after all onscreen occurrences, so post Nemesis?

Post Nemesis would be better, as it allows for more creative freedom. Setting it about 10+ years after the events of Nemesis would put you well outside of the events in the books as well, should people be worried about that.

Post-Nemesis could also technically include the current STO timeline. Anybody interested to live in the twenty-fifth century?

STO isn't canon, we aren't really going to get into the discussion about this but I believe the majority of people would not consider it as such.

I agree with the others, post-nemesis allows for more creativity especially if we're working within canon so we're not too constrained with ideas/plots.
