As part of our on-going efforts to continually expand and enhance our community we have recently decided to expand our support for non-Trek games. Both Jordan and I will be overseeing the expansion until a suitable permanent structure has been implemented.
If you play Star Trek games, and only Star Trek games, then absolutely nothing will change for you. We have no plans to diminish our presence in Star Trek Online, abandon older Star Trek games, or even shift our primary focus away from the Star Trek franchise. For the past thirteen years we have been a Star Trek community first and foremost, and we have no desire to depart from that philosophy.
If your interest has shifted away from Trek games or perhaps you juggle your time between non-Trek games and Trek games this change will likely have a positive impact on you. It’s a fair assumption to make given the current state of the Star Trek gaming franchise that there are far more Star Trek fans playing non-Trek games than there are fans playing Trek games. These are the individual we are looking to target as part of this expansion.
With the pre-amble aside, I’ll now go over how these changes will integrate into our existing structure in bullet form.
Immediate Changes
- Starfleet Holodeck will be granted full division status, and initially will be treated similarly to Starfleet Reserves.
- This means a CO and XO will be appointed as well as other junior staff as needed. Stay tuned for CO applications.
- The expanded Starfleet Holodeck will immediately formally support Minecraft and Star Citizen.
- We’ll also be conducting polls to see if there are any other popular games in the UFP that people are playing.
Short-term Goals
- After the command staff have been chosen, we will begin recruiting for Minecraft and Star Citizen (and perhaps any other genuinely popular games discovered during the poll).
- All recruitment efforts will highlight that we are a very Trek-centric community.
- We’ll be encouraging all interested members to get involved in non-Trek gaming activities, as well as encouraging incoming non-Trek members to get involved in Trek gaming activities. Our goal is to make the UFP a one-stop-shop for any and all Star Trek fans.
Long-term Goals
- We’ll be monitoring the performance of Starfleet Holodeck and will grow (or shrink) the division if and when needed.
- Let’s face it - there really isn’t all that much going on in the Trek universe right now. One of our goals will be to cover gaming related news for the other games that we officially support to help increase the frequency of news articles being posted.

It s exciting to se ufp expand beyond the limitation of supporting trek games only. I'm sure being able to appeal to all gamers, not just the small subset of trek gamers will be a boon to this community

Oh hey, this is pretty cool! I didn't see this coming, but is an entirely pleasant surprise!
While I'm not huge into Minecraft, and Star Citizen is still a ways away from me being really into it, I'm glad to see we're adapting to the needs of our community.
Best of luck to those applying to the command roles, and having been a part of setting up a new division myself, I know you guys have a lot of work ahead of you. Having said that, watching the division grow and expand into it's own entity is a wonderful thing, and I wish you guys all the success in the world.

Oh Goodie~ Tho, for the most part I tend sorta play 2 games at a given time... Fer now its STO (which pretty much occupies a better part of my gaming time save fer sum instances...) And Defiance (Look it up over Steam, or Trion Worlds...)
Anyways, It would be nice to know wad other games the Holodeck will support XD~

This is a really good move. I know we are a very trek focused community but we are also a community of gamers at heart. Seeing FEO acknowledge this and taking steps to unite the community in other interests only goes to prove they want to keep this community together in anything we play. I applaud all of FEO in this effort! I also wish all the candidates for the XO, CO jobs the best of luck with your application.

Does this mean Holodeck #1 and #2 will be merged/renamed or something? I'm curious how the text-based Simm might fit into the division-ized Holodeck.

Definitely looking forward to see our community venture into some of the current (or new/on the horizon) games. Fact of the matter, MMOs are always 1000 times better when you can enjoy it with a great community... such as the UFP.

This is a good thing and you should feel good for doing it. Expanding horizons is what Star Trek is all about, and this is a good way to continue that. I can't wait to see who the CO and XO are of Holodeck and I wish them the best of luck!
Also, I am seriously hyped for Star Citizen. No lie.
