I first really got into Star Trek when I was in high school. DS9 and Voyager were still airing, the local Fox affiliate had daily morning reruns of TNG and DS9 that I taped while at class, and SciFi was airing TOS episodes in the afternoons which my dad and I would bond watching together. Read some of the books, though little sticks in my head after all these years, other than
My Enemy, My Ally. My interest faded in college as I became busier and occupied with other things. In the last few months, however, I've had an itch to dive back into the world of Star Trek. Maybe it's the joy revisiting old friends that were some of the best parts of my HS days, or maybe it's just listening to the podcast Random Trek. Whatever the reason, it's been fun.
I was also curious about STO, have enjoyed some MMOs in the past (WoW, GW 1 and 2), and since it's ostensibly free to play I picked it up a couple weeks ago. My playing time is limited by adult life responsibilities, but I'm currently working on leveling two toons: Bajoran Tac and KDF Romulan Eng (my favorite races), with the Rom being more my main. Still getting the hang of playing the game itself. My general approach as an MMO player is to solo PvE, but time permitting I'm up for helping out or a bit of RP. And I found, back when I was into WoW, that I enjoyed being able to have guild chat up while soloing or otherwise.
As for favorites, I can never pick just one or two. But DS9 is my favorite series, though I like things about all the series I've seen. (Since I'm invested in 23rd/24th century canon, I never wanted to see, and thus haven't Enterprise or the reboot. Same reason I dropped all my DC books after Flashpoint.)
But really, Garak is just the best 
I live in hope that one day you'll come to see this universe for what it truly is rather than what you wish it to be.

I have seen that, and it'll make its way to the "To Read" pile, when I can find the time. Surprisingly expensive to find a hard copy of online, especially since it's readily available as an e-book.

Since you are another fellow North American player, and creeping up on 50, if you have any questions or concerns or want help with builds, feel free to jump on TS and look for me, once you hit 50 the game takes a major change and a lot of trivial things become important.
