I'm not sure if this is the correct section. If not, please don't hesitate to move this thread to the correct forum.
So, I bought a Asus G71G gaming laptop on eBay. It is being shipped to my house as I type this. I am going to put in 2x 2TB 2.5in hard dirves (yes 2TB each in a laptop!!). I was going to install Window 7, but I got to thinking. What about Linux? I have always been curious about Linux and have dabbled with a live cd of it a few times. But, I am wanting to make the switch completely.
I was wondering if anyone here has any experience running STO or any other games on Linux. I have done some research here in the truck and found a couple of useful links.
There a Linux distro now designed for gaming. Comes loaded with everything you need to get gaming. Including W.I.N.E and nVidia GPU drivers (the G71G has a nVidia card). It is called Play Linux
I also found a website called WineHQ. This site has a searchable database of games that you can play on Linux and known bugs with said game.
And this guide which explained the process fairly well and easy to understand.
I'm thinking that between these three links; getting games to play on Linux might not be such a pain the plasma exhaust after all.
This will be a new challenge for me learning a whole new OS, but I do like the idea of getting away from Microsoft.
Let me know issues that you have come across with playing games on Linux or any helpful advise on getting up and running.

Moved to Help and Tips for better visibility. Personally I haven't tried to get STO running on Linux, but I have had heard others have varying degrees of success depending on the game. I know Valve is also making a big push for strong Linux support right now too.

Well as a general here are a few things that might come in handy:
1) GIMP (Great free image editor)
2) Chrome (A lot more stable then Chomimium)
3)Make sure that you update your Firewall
What Linux distro are you going to use?
