There's a few of us messing around in WT but really lack the basic knowledge, is there a good place to learn why we get one shot when the opposing tanks we're shooting can take 20 shells to the gas tank and live?

It all depends on what tier tanks you are against and if they are russian. If you have a tier 4 tank in a tier 3 game it will be OP. Russian tanks are OP because Gaijin is a Russian company I cannot tell you how many times I have been one shotted by a KV2 in a tier 2 game lol

Learn where to shoot on the tanks?

Learn where the ammo is, the crew and the weakest armour points. You should NEVER shoot more than twice in the same spot on a tank. Always shoot one, if it penetrates, then use the 'hit cam' to adjust your aim accordingly.

You can also check where everything is in the tank, the crew, the ammo etc. in your hangar. WT also has an armour indicator which you can use in the hangar.

Some Russian Tanks are easy to kill if you know where to shoot. All tanks have weak spots, you just have to find them.

Well I've been running American tanks which are clearly under armored with Vivi running Russian tanks, but the problem I'm having is we're running tier 1's (I have up to T3) and even with a lvl 400 crew I can shoot another tank 20 times and then they one shot me. I see my shells hitting their gas tank, heat rounds, personnel, ect. and it's like oh no biggie. I'm starting my Russians to level up but it's annoying to be in a T2 tank and get 1 shot by a T1.

Make sure the Battle Rating for all your tanks are roughly the same, otherwise you will be into Higher Tier matches that all your other tanks can't compete in with success.

Also, don't fill your tank's ammo capacity up to the maximum, that makes ammo explosions (and insta-kill) easier.

I would say what Jordan has said is the best advice, its normally what I do. Plus, I only have American tanks, I'm now into Tier 3 and love it - yeah, I do die alot but that is because the Russian tanks are very powerful, and the German tanks have amazing firepower.

All that said, I will always stay true to the Americans, and can't wait until I can get my heavy Shermans

Well I noticed that your squad rank if you go in in a team is based on the top tier, and when we went in and I was on higher tanks we moved to squad rank 2. I'm just on the cusp of T3 American, and I actually keep very few heat rounds (which seam to be the ones that blow up) after dying that way several times. I do know that my crew that is above 400 in my best tank (even in my best T1 tank) makes a huge difference. The biggest confusion was that I had a M3 across from me and I was in an M3. The M3 was shooting at Vivi. I put, literally, 20 rounds, 2 critical, into his tank. Hits, not deflections. I saw every member of his crew take shrapnel, saw his ammo dump get hit, his engine take 4 rounds, his gas tank take 2....I literally ran out of rounds shooting him and ended up machine gunning him cuz I was so irritated. Then after vivi died he turned and one shot me. I'll just take all the heat rounds out for now since I can't ever get a good shot off with them anyway. Thanks

Thanks for all your help....now I have one additional question. I broke my left hand rather severely a few years ago and I know they have war thunder for the *ducks please don't hit me Fallen* PS4. Do you know if it's a cross server thing, like can I join games via that? I have a game pad for my laptop but it's not the same as playing on a big screen. I don't want to start over though.
