So when this set first came out a year or so ago, I read up on it and I hear it's ok, but it obviously doesn't go together as smoothly as Lego bricks do. I've been a Lego nut for years and they just put so much QA into their product that nothing to date (even past their patents being done) can compare. Also, I hear some of the bigger pieces (the top of the saucer) are just one big piece, which takes away from the build process. However, for $25USD that's not bad. I probably won't buy it, mostly because I don't need any more large Lego sets in my house - wife would kill me. That said, it might be a fun build.

Wife would murder me... baby Kains isnt 2 yet and he has a box of Legos waiting for him to turn 5 (Or whatever the number is)... and as a caring dad, and a loving husband, I have put in the time and due dilligence to make sure it is all safe.
And now the minifigures are everywhere.

Yeah, when my daughter was about 4 (she's 5 now) we started buying the Lego Friends and Disney sets - she will sit at the kitchen table for hours, and scream when we try to put an end to it, and just build and play. She loves it. She does lose/drop pieces, but she's pretty good about it.
We also have a huge box of Duplo blocks (mixed sets, including Disney) and both my girls - 2 and 5 - play with those quite regularly. They can dump them out and it doesn't harm a thing. Good "blocks" option without making a terrible mess or losing pieces.
Now, I did buy one of those new Juniors sets - the Spider Man one (my daughter likes Spider Man better than Batman *shakes fist*). And while it's easier to build, my girl still had trouble. But, less small pieces... worth a go if you ask me.
Back to Kre-O or other brands, still not a fan. Although I did buy the Jeep Wrangler set and have that on my desk (I will totally own a Jeep Wrangler in real life some day...).

do they still make Duplos? I had a lot of fun with those when I was 2-3

I do know the feeling Kain I have a few grand in transformers that I'm waiting to play with when/if I have a son. If not then I know my cousin who is like a sister is gonna have a boy and I'm looking forward to it. Unfortunately a lot are the japanese imports that don't meet safety standards, like the megatron that actually shoots and a couple of optimus 1984 with the extended smokestacks.
