Hello all
I would like to introduce myself.
I've been a fan of Star Trek for a very long time, I remember looking forward to going to my Grandmothers house just so I could watch Star Trek! I remember how I wanted to be like Spock, how I wanted to not show any emotions, and how I wanted to look at things in a 'Logical' way. 
I'm 48yrs old, and I have to laugh when people tease me about being a Star Trek fan. I work out at sea as a Merchant Mariner and most of the poeple I work with are NOT even Sci-Fi fans! They like to say things like "I bet you dress up in Star Trek uniforms and go to those convensions don't you!", I tell them "No, I'm not a fanatic, just a fan.", There is nothing wrong with being a fanatic, and dressing up. That's just not for me. I have been to conventions, and I've been able to meet some of the actors of my favorite Star Trek shows. My most fondest memories is when I got a hug from Nana Visitor (Major Kira, as if you all didn't know already). I went to a Star Trek convention in Seattle about 2 years ago, and during a Q&A with Nana I told her "You were the one reason I watched Deep Space 9, you looked hot back then, and you still look hot today!", she couldn't help but give me a hug for that.

As I said, I'm a Merchant Mariner, so there maybe times I wont be able to play STO, but at least I can still stay in contact with everyone through this web site and forum.
I look forward to meeting you all, and I hope to be up on Team Speak soon, just have to dig my mic out of the closet.

You fellow crew mates don't know what they are missing!
We tease each other all the time, all in good fun. They don't like it when I tell them that Star Trek has greatly influenced out technology of today (and beyond for that matter). I had one guy literally tell me "Oh BS!", he shut up when I started going through the list (and these are just from the original series)....
small squares that they kept computer information on.... 3.5" Floppies.
They used to read books on computer screens..... Kindal/Nook
They used to sign documents on hand held tablets..... Ipad/Android tablets
They used communicators to call anyone and would flip open....... The old flip open cell phones.
They had a huge library to pull documents from on the ship.....We have the internet
By this time they just turn around and walk away, even though I'm still going down the list.. LOL

And they speak to their computers!! Reminds me of Bones & Scotty in IV talking the late-1980s engineer into giving them the plexi they need to tank up the whales. Scotty decides to show him the formula for transparent aluminum, picks up the mouse, and talks into it.

LOL, yea, one of my favorite scenes. In my original post I said that I wanted to be just like Spock, well, I ended up being more like Scotty. I work in the engineering department of the ships that I sail on, unfortunately I never get the chance to say 'She's giving it all she's got Captain!'.

Welcome to the community!
I'd have to agree with your assessment of Nana Visitor, but I could not stand her character at first. The way Kira was written in the beginning just made her seem like someone who was a constant annoyance. It wasn't until later in the series when they really got into her back story with the Cardassians that made you have a better appreciation for overall character. One of the things I like about Star Trek is that they aren't afraid to make characters with realistic personalities. I think it really added to the humanity of the characters and allowed the audience to connect to all of them.
