    It took a long time, but I finally managed it. I have to admit, the last hundred years or so were really grinding. Tongue Out

    In a nutshell, I started the game as Karl (aka Charlemagne) in 769, with the game pretty much giving me the Holy Roman Empire. From there all I had to do was marry a Greek who had a strong claim to the Byzantine Empire next door, and the heir (and next Emperor) would therefore also have a strong claim. Taking over Constantinople was surprisingly easy, just steamrolled over them - I theorize they were getting hammered by the Muslims at the time and had no soldiers.

    After that, the world was pretty much my oyster.
