Well done Dentari!

It's worth acknowledging that this appointment is a historic step towards greater diversity in the community. I'm delighted to see that FEO are finally acknowledging the importance and hard work of Brummies in this community. I never thought this would happen, mostly, because of that difficult language consisting of untranslatable phrases such as "Maaaam, whoi was we 'av to be bawn 'urr?" "Oi bab, bostin wench!" and of course "Our kid's gonna propa lamp em one!" Despite the peculiarities with some of these phrases we must provide recognition for this unique culture and accept our Brummie members as people too. More importantly people who have skills which they can bring to the community.

Alright, since its been several hours and no one but Kerry seems to want to poke this with a stick, I'll be the brave one and ask: What the heck is a brummie?

I usually do pretty good with the British-isims, often acting as translator between British and American, but this one has me lost.

Plus I'd far rather hear the definition here than look it up on Urban dictionary because who knows what it'll mean then...

People from Birmingham (UK obviously) are referred to as being Brummies. Also the regional accent and dialect of people from Birmingham is also called Brummie. It's because during the Middle Ages Birmingham was, amongst other variants, known as Brumaggem.

People who live here often simply call the city 'Brum' as well, although I'm not fond of doing so myself.

As a result the city rightfully gets some tongue in cheek mockery, when its not being mistaken for a Islamic Caliphate from our friends at fox news. This thread of congratulations would be incomplete if we failed to acknowledge that Dentari has a slight “BUHMEENGUM” twang and as a result through a message of unity and comradeship he too should face some banterous abuse.
