    So for starters I quite enjoy Star Trek. Specifically TOS and TNG. Now I'm no "expert" on the lore by any means. I've seen both shows multiple times threw. Lol i just don't want negativity should this be a dumb question. Anywho. In the episode "Amok time". Doesn't Spock explain the vulcans must return to Vulcan to reproduce or they will die? So my question is. In the new movie, if Vulcan is destroyed, shouldn't all the surviving vulcans die out and go extinct by 7 years?

    IIRC, I don't think it was ever stated that the ritual was location specific. A room in a motel 6 on route 66 would work the same as on Vulcan. Just need two Vulcan and the right moment. Wink

    Hmmm, I thought it was a thing where they had to return to Vulcan as well, and just turfed it as inconvenient by later writings.

    I thought that the 'returning to vulcan' was specific to Spock, as he was the only vulcan on the ship.

    In Enterprise with T'Pol had an episode regarding this as well... unless that was a dream... Redface

    Nevertheless, I don't believe it is location specific. But 'returning to vulcan' was likely the most optimal option as there were a larger pool of vulcans to um... scratch your itch with... if you will. Otherwise, if you were the lonely vulcan out in deep space and the only other vulcan around was someone who despised, the encounter would be kind of awkward. Of course, this was if the vulcan considered the private nature of the pon farr more cultural (need a vulcan) vs. being more open (use a non-vulcan).

    Then again... this phrase kind of surprised me.

    It was considered to be a very private matter within Vulcan society, so much that only a handful of Starfleet doctors have ever handled it.
    I don't know where to begin with this one...

    Ok sounds good I guess. I thought though Spock said returning was part of the biology like salmon, and the cave thing he explained. That part just bugged me in the new movie lol. Well alot did. I enjoy the movie, just dislike a bit of it. But o well. Not like it ruined TOS for me haha.
