    Found this guide the other month. It's quite a heavy read, and seems aimed more for those who haven't played an MMO before, but still throws plenty of useful tips out there.

    Not sure if this still holds true... but try to get a cheap 'Adaptive' gear at around level 10 (first mods/armor/etc available at lvl 9-10, I recall).

    The custom gear is where you can 'slot' the various items for stats. They come in flavors such as 'armor', 'mod', 'enhancement', and barrel/hilt (for weapons).

    Thus as you quest, you will earn planetary commendations which you can spend to 'upgrade' your various slots at a very economical (not spending credits) cost.

    If at minimum, do this for your weapon. As you want to keep that at/near your current level to make live easier as you cut (or blast) your path through your quests.

    FYI, the added benefit of Adaptive armor is that you could build a whole 'look' and 'style' that you can maintain while you are leveling.

    This path may be a bit more of an investment... but hey it *is* Star Wars and one has to be fashionable as you save the galaxy. This isn't the 70s anymore... and one has to have the right hairdo and clothing (with accessories) to match to be a truly epic hero(ine).

    The Galactic Market should have a plethora of items available for all slots. However, be warned that some of the 'cooler' looking sets are quite expensive.

    My advice for SWTOR is to try something new. Most players in Star Wars games always go for the saber. Go for the blaster. I've had far more fun playing my Imperial Agent, Smuggler and Bounty Hunter than I have my Sith Sorcerer or Jedi Sentinel. Of course, I may be biased from my BH/Smuggler days in SWG...
