    It'd be a long way to travel to find the wormhole destablised, disappeared or shifted position Tongue Out. The other route might be longer but you can at least sure it's there.

    Lol or could you hath? cos if the UFP didn't win the dominion war then earth might have been a dangerous place to go to! but I would still set a course there, besides I wouldnt know what to expect, there coul be an all powerful race the ularians or something that could kill me and my crew but we would never know.

    Well the Dominion wasn't known by the crew at the time, but unstable wormholes, or anomalies being... well anomalous, that's already well documented.

    Yeah, but that leaves the fact that Janeway did not think about going through the Gamma Quad.

    Frankly, if I had her as a captain, I'd say, "Uh, what about going through the gamma quadrant?"

    Yeah but with how Popular the whole Borg theme was in previous series Im sure the writers wanted to be able to use Star Trek's ultimate villan (other than Khan of course) the Borg, in the Show. Im sure that played in quite a bit on how Voyagers route was selected by the writers of the show.

    Going by that map the distance from Voyager to the wormhole isn't much greater than the distance between Voyager and the Beta quadrant anyway.

    Again bare in mind that it is a 2D map of a 3D galaxy, a route may look shorter or longer illustrated in 2D rather than what it actually is. By removing an axis it makes it impossible to accurately judge.

    How did they even know where in the delta quadrant they were, they could have assumed they were closer to the beta quadrant than they were to the gamma quadrant in the first place. Go figure Tongue Out

    Considering the technology available to them it is unlikely they would mistakenly pinpoint their own position. They determined their position based on their position to known stars, just as we are able to determine our position in the galaxy.
