here is a thought, subscription services might be the right way to go, they will know how many have watched it, in this day and age where people can't be on at a certain time to watch what they want they stream it, and i know for a fact that has been the death of many people's favorite shows, i remember doug saying about enterprise, that if the people that "VHS'ED it - VHS LOL So Old!" The figures would double....now we might get a true viewing

Viewership demographics might be an interesting point, and I suppose I'm also not considering what companies might pony up in advertising to exclusive Star Trek people.

We shall have to wait and see. A lot can happen between now and then.

For you naysayers saying it hasn't brought in fans you're absolutely wrong. People who like the new movies do watch and like the old shows. They're better people than you because at least they have objectivity and don't nag and nag and nag when they don't have their own way...

Stories are about plot twists, about building up our expectations and thinking in one way, and then pointing to a new avenue or direction. The kind of twist that it involves changes by genre. In mysteries, the plot twists are about building the reader's expectation one way, while hiding the truth of the mystery in plain sight, trying to disguise. In drama, the actual expectation of the plot doesn't necessarily change, but the twist is that the context changes our view of it. In science fiction, the twist is often a fact or logical conclusion after building the layman's expectations one way, or the realization of an idea, even philosphical (such as didactic sci-fi like Heinlein, or Trek). These are not hard and fast rules, but they are methods of storytelling. Heroic fantasy, of course, is a sort of drama.

I'm not a hater of JJ Trek. They're fine movies, on their own. But moving from science fiction to heroic fantasy isn't an 'evolution', only a change. I just want science fiction stories. I apologize if that makes me a cancer.

After reading that it sounds like CBS are ready to make a big shakeup to make it less dull than previous series but not as outrageously wrong in continuity terms as what JJ Trek has been - sounds really interesting times are ahead! No doubt they'll make another announcement post Xmas about the actual content of the show and ease everyones quarms about what its actually going to be about .....we hope :-D

Personally very intrigued by this - and I think the appetite is there for a new series after a 12-year break (by the time this airs). Kurtzman claims to be the most Trek, Trek-fan of the lot from the JJ universe, so I would hope it will be a series set in the Prime universe.

Personally I've always wanted to see a 25th or 26th century trek, set aboard an Enterprise-H or something, but the Federation is on its knees. A real twist on the universe as we know it - forcing perhaps a more grittier Trek than we have seen in the past. As long as its got high production values, and keeps true to Roddenberry;s original vision...I'm happy.

From what I am hearing is everyone get to access to the pilot episode then you would have pay to watch the rest of the air shows when they air.
