If you've heard of or played World of Tanks (WoT for short), you might think Armored Warfare is a copy of the former. In some ways, it is but if you look closer there are key differences between these two games.

In a nutshell, Armored Warfare (AW for short) is an online multiplayer game focused on combat between modern armored vehicles, including light tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, tank destroyers, main battle tanks, and artillery.

Like World of Tanks, you have the usual random team-based PvP battles, research trees for vehicles, and premium content which includes vehicles, gold, and premium accounts. The layout of the in-battle interface is similar to WoT in terms of where all the information panels and mini-map is located but, considering the vehicles have modern technology, there will be additional information displayed on the interface in AW. These are some of the similarities between these two games. When you take a closer look, you will start to see many differences that set them apart.

The most obvious difference would probably be the era of which the vehicles original from, WoT vehicles from the early 1910s to the early 1960s, AW vehicles ranging from the mid 1960s to the most recent vehicles of today (provided that there is enough unclassified data on these vehicles that the AW developers are able to access when making vehicles to be used in-game.) Some AW players have noted the capabilities of some vehicles are less potent than their real life counterparts; in some cases, the developers had approximate performance due to the fact that most of these vehicles are still in active service and as a result certain details (for example, the materials composing the armor on the Challenger tanks) remain classified.

The usage of guided munitions in AW is another aspect that sets it apart from WoT, specifically anti-tank guided missiles (ATGM). Vehicles such as the M2 Bradley have guided missiles which can be useful in cases where heavily armored targets are encountered that cannot be penetrated by small caliber main guns. In AW, all vehicles with ATGMs need to be stationary before it can fire. After the missile is fired you are required to manually guide the missile to your target using your targeting recticle, so it does take a bit of skill to use them and can be rewarding when they do hit.

The biggest difference in my opinion is the inclusion of something that WoT has lacked from the start: PvE. AW eases new players into PvE, lower tier vehicles are locked into lower difficulty levels while higher tier vehicles have access to higher difficulty levels. I like the implementation of this as it allows new players to practice and learn, and allows experienced players to worry less about new players jumping right into higher difficulties without even bothering to play lower difficulties.

I could go on and on but this will do for now.

My username in AW is SG_ONeill. If anyone wants to join me in PvE, I'm available. Big Grin

I gave it a shot. As someone who played World of Tanks on and off since Beta I was pretty excited to check this game out. If you like WoT but wished it was modern then this game is for you. One thing it definitely has better than WoT is the PVE option. However it's the same kind of grindfest as WoT as well, so if you get bored grinding tanks for long periods of time then you'll eventually stop playing in time.

Other than that when I played it I enjoyed it.

    I give it a shot. And then one more...and one more...and again...and *HELP I CAN'T STOP*

This game is actually a lot of fun. I never really got into world of tanks (although I love the warships variant) but this is really getting me interested. The way the handle things, including not having premium ammo seems solid. Expanding the base is a nice little addition.

Hope they'll add a lot more PVE content as that's a lot of fun so far, despite there only being a couple of missions.

It does become a grindfest as you advance up through the tiers in AW but the difference is the grind is more tolerable in PvE, in my opinion. I find it refreshing to play an online tank game with PvE where players actually work together quite well, unlike the toxic (and often mind-numbingly stupid) behavior exhibited by players in WoT which is exclusively PvP.

I don't know how I missed this post. Must have posted at the same time as I replied. Surprised

Yeah, the aspect of grinding out the necessary exp and credits for upgrades can lead to sessions lasting a couple of hours. lol

I like the way ammo is handled as well and it avoids the pay-to-win aspect that way. The only limitation in terms of ammo is which types can be carried on each vehicle, like for example the Chieftain and Challenger tanks carry HESH rounds instead of the usual HE found on most vehicles.

I'm pretty much hooked on this game, especially after I got the Challenger 1 recently. The armor upgrade package is ridiculously good in PvE. So good that the AI doesn't even bother shooting AP at the frontal armor and use HE because AP will just bounce off every time. The Challenger frequently get lit on fire from frontal hits though as well as suffering damage to the fuel tank from frontal hits also, which is strange considering they are mounted on the rear. I suspect it may have something to do with the higher chance of fire from all HE shells but it might also be a bug on the Challenger as it's the only tank I've played so far that even lits on fire when it gets hit.

I just unlocked the M1 Abrams so I'm grinding the exp and credits for upgrades, then go for the M1A1 version. Long way to go. lol
