The UFP has long hosted Short Story Competitions, either official or otherwise. The last notable run of competitions (which I participated in!) was organised by Caymen Greener. Having missed being able to read through story submissions, I have decided to start up the competition in an official capacity once again.
This competition will be pretty open ended. Write in whatever style you are most comfortable with. Write about existing characters or completely new ones. Anything Star Trek is a valid option. I expect to see a lot of creative stories head my way over the remainder of this month. Once submissions close, a period of voting will begin, where all members can support their favourite story.
I really look forward to receiving your submissions!
RULES:
- Competitors must not make their stories public until the competition is over.
- Stories must not exceed 1750 words (There is no minimum wordcount).
- Stories must be based on/in the Star Trek Multiverse.

why such a small word count though? thats not enough to set up a character, a world, background, even in the most minimal sense. 3000 words is what I would define as a short story.
There are several reasons I decided to put such a strict word limit on this competition:
- Limited word count forces participants to think creatively.
- It is much easier for readers to fully digest multiple submissions.
- Perhaps most importantly it makes the competition accessible.
I will likely review and adjust the word count every competition depending on the level of interest. Starting off small seems the sensible way to go. However, in an attempt to be more accommodating I will raise the word count to 2,000.
