Emissary was definitely my favourite opening episode for a Star Trek show.

Emissary was definitely my favourite opening episode for a Star Trek show.
I definitely agree. It introduced the new cast well in my opinion. It also really makes me remember how Bashir was the most nauseating character ever at the beginning.

Deep Space 9 was my first Trek series that I watched from day 1. I still remember going to my friends house and watching it with the family.
I loved how it started with a flashback to the best episode of TNG ever, and showed what it was like to face Locutus of Borg at Wold 359.
It took me a while to warm up to the crew of rag tag Bajorans, but once they got the chip of their collective shoulders...lol, I started to like them.
But the thing I loved the most of this episode, was how it captured the father son relationship between Benjamin and Jake. I think it was one of the best parts of the series, and it was great to watch it grow.

I thought it was a good episode, I watched DS9 after finishing off TNG so I definitely had high expectations, I thought that Major Kira was a bit mean but I did understand how she felt. They were free from the Cardassians and now Starfleet is arriving there so she was understandably frustrated and wanted to be free and to not rely on anyone. It remains one of my favourite pilot episodes and seeing the Bajorans and Starfleet getting used to each other and being allies definitely made the show strong. Seeing Miles O'Brien join the cast of DS9 was definitely a nice touch, we had a familiar face and it helped me get into the series a bit more.

Fantastic opening episode to the opening of DS9 but the only episode probably of any real quality in the first two seasons, it was a great way of opening Siskos character background too! Unfortunately they couldn't build on it for the remainder of the series and the second series!

Fantastic opening episode to the opening of DS9 but the only episode probably of any real quality in the first two seasons
The first couple of seasons for most Star Trek series are a bit weak, not really hitting their stride until the 3rd season but I thought Season 2 of DS9 was great. The Bajoran coup trilogy, Cardassians, Blood Oath, The Maquis, The Wire and The Jem 'Hadar in my opinion were all fantastic.

I honestly really enjoy the first few seasons of DS9. Generally weaker episodes, but it's excellent seeing the characters begin to evolve. Emissary really did a great job in establishing the characters and ongoing storylines that lasted all the way through the series.

That Wolf 359 fight at the beginning though. Totally worth watching.
