Hi Everyone,
Been spending some time nerding out recently watching series 1 of TNG, DS9 and Voyager courtesy of Syfy and Sky+ and I've come to a conclusion I want to discuss, I firmly now believe after watching a dozen episodes of each series and I firmly believe that the quality of the first series of Voyager is massively better in quality to the others and far more interesting and less tedious with generous plot lines and great character stories relevant to what they were doing rather than a random collection of random stories that make no sense!

Well I wouldn't say I'm in agreement but what I will say is that i'm not surprised you coming to that conclusion. If you think about it Voyager's first season had the benefit of two previous star trek series under it's belt. I see it to in saying that DS9's first season started off better than TNG's first season. Unfortunately in my opinion that did not carry over to Enterprise.

If you go by last generation Treks, Voyager has the best first season of the bunch. It however still is a glass half full in fully realized potential.
Edit: Before someone asks, the original generation Treks are TOS and TAS. The last generation was TNG, DS9, VOY, and ENT. Our current generation is sadly just AltTOS and STO, until that TV show occurs.
If you put all 3 generations together, VOY probably has the second best first season after TOS.

As first seasons go (which is generally pretty poorly) then Voyager had quite a relatively strong first season but I think it could and should have been so much better with the writers pretty much abandoning the whole premise of the show, a ship with finite resources crewed by two different groups with traditionally different agendas.
For me it just felt like Voyager too quickly gave up what was meant to make it unique, one of the aims of Voyager was to vary the series from Star Trek: The Next Generation, they had an awesome opportunity to do that and I really think they failed to take it.

Yeah I agree, there was that element of risqué and dangerous Star Trek storylines that either work or they don't and they ditched that on safe material i.e. The Borg blah blah blah lol
