Does the new trailer for Star Trek Beyond finally get it right?

What do you think about the latest trailer? Are you excited about Star Trek Beyond or still haunted by the infamous first trailer?

This is a much better trailer and makes me actually want to see the movie now. Up until now I was rather reluctant. So good job on them for the trailer. Now to see what the movie is actually about and where it leaves us off...

I think it looks a lot better than the first trailer suggested. The 'Enterprise getting destroyed in every instalment' jazz is getting a little bit boring, but it's shaping up to be a lot better than it initially looked. It seems a lot less flashy and explosive than the previous two movies and this newest trailer makes it seem more like it's striking at Star Trek's roots, which hopefully actually reflects in the movie. That's just my take.

I'm sure it'll be visually beautiful and entertaining af, we'll just have to wait and see whether it's actually a decent Star Trek movie.

Was that a NX class towards the end, too?

The NX class was retired long before when the film takes place so it is very unlikely to actually be a NX class ship but the design does look incredibly similar, it's likely a nod to the NX, from both an in-universe and a production stand point it makes sense to celebrate the NX class.

If it get's named I wonder if it will be the alternate universe version of the Anton class which is related to the Miranda class, the main difference in design is that the warp nacelles are above the saucer for this ship and below for an Anton class but when the Reliant was designed it was actually intended to be the other way up with the nacelles above the saucer, the reason this was reversed is because when the design was shown off the picture was held the wrong way up and they ended up preferring it.

It might be an Old Intrepid Class. it doesnt have the part between nacelles like it does on NX. but definately an Pre-Federation ship. in my opinion.

Edit: It actually Looks like the USS Franklin concept they released a while back.

I think after the destruction of the Enterprise, they find an old NX class in mothballs and use it to escape/rescue the crew

New trailer is a plus. Has perked my interest and while i am probably going to see it anyways before this came out, it helps.

Agreed, Jovek. While it of course could be another type of ship, it definitely looks a lot like the ol' NX class. Seeing as how Starfleet ships are built to last, i wouldn't be shocked if it was a JJverse NX refit that they find crashed on the planet they're on.

The timeline changed after the NX class was out of service so if it is an NX class then it has to be a refit that hasn't been seen or mentioned before or they are just going to ignore any differences between the NX class seen in Enterprise and their version.

So far the USS Franklin is, I believe, the only concept art we have seen for a completely new Starfleet ship design so it wouldn't surprise me at all if this was what the concept evolved in to. From what you see of the ship in the trailer it does certainly seem to have the same characteristics.

Indeed. Could be that JJs art team started out with the NX designs and then begun to modify it with their art style, brought it up to the current specifications of 23rd century starships and preceded to pump out new design models of what that ship could look like till we ended up with the Franklin.

After thinking a little bit more about the ship seen in the trailer I do have a theory which is admittedly a massive long shot but it does fit.

Krall (the antagonist played by Idis Elba) has been said to be part of a race that hadn't been encountered before who despises the Federation and apparently has a genuine reason for doing so, what if that ship was a ship that Starfleet believed was missing but had made first contact with his species at some point in the past and something went very wrong? Basically a bit like Friendship One?

The ship does seem to be very small (if it is the Franklin then it's probably less than 50 meters across) but that seems inconsistent with what we know of Starfleet ship design in the JJverse where, following the loss of the Kelvin, Starfleet seemed to focus on much larger ship designs with the Enterprise of the era being considerably larger than the Enterprise E. It could be that Starfleet does still have some very small ship classes or it does support a very old (possibly pre-Kelvin) design.

LOVE the new trailer....

my guess is that the Franklin might be an evolution to the NX class (including the Columbia class refit NX) ..... especially since so many were lost in the Earth-Romulan War.....and I say this because the timeline had not changed until Star Trek 2009... despite so many NX class ships being lost during the war (due to the romulan telecapture device) the NX class itself was a proven ship.... fast, sleek, maneuverable, well armed (2253 when the weapons were upgraded due to the Xindi threat)....

but I totally agree, the Franklin might have had a first contact situation that went wrong....and its crew was taken prisoner and the ship left to rot, so to speak.....

Indeed. Could be that during the end (or slightly after) of the Earth-Romulan War the Franklin found this planet, begun first contact and then either something went wrong during the process or they got attacked. Ship ends up crashing planetside, crew gets captured/killed, then Kirk and crew come across her later on down the road.

It takes place just over two years in to the five year mission.
