I was just wondering what the main function of the tribble server is and why people play on it. I know it's a testing ground but are there any other benefits from playing it beside having the chance to test new content? Reshirt?

You basically nailed it. As far as I know Tribble is STO's PTR server. Content is patched into the server so it can betested before it is sent out to the lIve server. I don't think there is any benefits other than testing content.

The Tribble server is primarily used for content and game update testing. Cryptic occasionally offers small exclusive rewards to players who login to help test major releases.

However, it can also be used by players to test builds and configurations in the game without spending resources in the live game to do so. A few important things to remember about Tribble are that the market is essentially empty, so it you want to test out rare items you need to be willing to buy or stock on dilithium (but don't equip) on the live server before transfering characters into the test environment. Equip your test items on Tribble and test away. If you don't like your new config, just go back to live and sell those items. Note that this only works on items you can sell, so think carefully before crafting that rare reputation item because you will be stuck with it even if you don't use it.

Secondly, testing group content can be difficult unless you are coordinating with other testers (such as the UFP!).

Lastly, Tribble wipes the database frequently, so I would not recommend playing here if you want to keep your progress.

I apologize for Necroing this thread but I am wondering how does one get onto the tst servers, I asked yesterday Via UFP STO chat and was told I had to use the launcher which redownloads the game into a different area, I have no problem with this but I cannot figure out where and which launcher has that option for the server

Edit ok i Found the instruction which test server to use now lol
