So there is a movement to not see Star Trek Beyond, at least during the opening weekend. The goal is to get CBS/Paramount to revise their guidelines. This is not about Axanar, its about getting CBS/Paramount to understand its the fans who have kept Star Trek alive all these years. They have been are sh*ttng on us for years. They don't even like Star Trek, they just want your money. Hollywood Exes have killed off so many great shows, its time to said

Yes, lets give CBS/Paramount more reason to crack down on fan films AND not make any more Star Trek... I'm sure that'll go over real well...

Whilst I do not like the new fan film guidelines, I do feel that boycotting is just not the way to go about things... Boycotting might just piss them off, more than make them listen, especially as they don't really care about Star Trek, but at the same time - regardless of what people think - they have the legal right to defend their their property, regardless of the fact that fans have kept it alive, they can do whatever they like with their property. It's like avoiding to go down a certain street, because one person who lives down there won't let you drive his Ferrari...

Sadly, it is what it is, whilst they are naff guidelines at least this means that people can legally and freely gain funds to start a project and still make a fan film of some sort. Discussing with CBS is a more mature way to deal with it, I feel anyway.

Personally, I don't care about the fan films anymore or the new guidelines. Renegades was awful and Axanar seems to be taking an eternity to get released, even before the whole lawsuit thing happened. As Tony Todd said, Axanar should have been completed a long time ago, instead they spent money on new cars instead of working on production, but I digress.

It only doesn't matter now because fan films simply can't exist. 15 minutes is a joke. These are fan films for a reason, which includes they film or do tasks on the go. For a fan film, Horizon, Renegades and Axanar did deliver very well, regardless of the time it took for the actual release.

Not sure why people are talking about boycotting Star Trek Beyond(or rather why only), when CBS is citing. The new CBS Star Trek series should be boycotted when it releases next year, if people do intent to "hurt" CBS even more.

Well, I for one see it as its the fan films and conventions regardless that kept Star Trek going and even showing execs at Hollywood that there still exists a decent fan following it for Star Trek to re-enter the small and big screens after so many years. That new TV series better be one hell of a show after this decision, else they're gonna pay for it in terms of no one being interested and bad ratings.

For a boycott to be successful a lot of people would need to take part and Paramount would need to understand the reason for the poor performance.

I doubt enough people would boycott through film and I suspect Paramount would attribute poor box office revenues to other factors rather than as a backlash against the fan film rules.

In the event that enough people did boycott the film then my concern would be whether it makes CBS and Paramount believe the Star Trek property is worth less and therefore put more time and energy elsewhere.

Boycotts don't work very often and I don't think they would work here either, often people who say they are boycotting something will end up buying into that thing anyway. There's also others who would never put money into the thing in the first place, so saying they are boycotting something is just a hollow statement.

There was a time where boycotting a product like this had a real impact, but now you would need a lot of people, and they would have to visibly protest the film at theatres around the world. Visibility is key now, and the message of anger over fan film regulations would have to be front and center for the mainstay to even realise this is a thing.

I do love my fellow Star Trek fans, but we're really not that kind of people (For the most part).

However, I do like to think that we're very intelligent sort of people, so hopefully someone figures out some work arounds. Either through negotiation, or through the legal system, I dunno what. Maybe under a slightly changed name? Star Travels?

I'm sure there is a way to do it, but I don't think boycotting is the answer in all honesty.

I am sorry guys but with a attitude like this the USA would still be British Colony. This is why Hillary Clinton will be President. Even people that will be voting for her say she is not trustworthy but will vote for because they have no other choice. The system has beaten the people down. They know longer believe they can make a different.

I did the Save Farscape and we got a 4 hour movie. Its was a small victory but we got a conclusion. If you don't at least try you will never make a different.

Black Lives Matter movement is raging against the machine. I am not black and don't agree with everything they do; but I respect their courage; risking jail and even the of possibility death. But you guys can't be bother to skip the opening weekend of a movie. Wait 2 weeks. You don't even need to picket anything. No jail, no death.

Oh and there is a call to boycott the new series, and hopefully some CBS programming in the fall. I like Big Bang Theory and NCIS but I will be willing to miss them. But Star Trek Beyond is first thing up. You guys didn't even like the first 2 movies. So why not wait a week or two to see it.

Aren't the TV show and film rights owned by different studios now anyway? And aren't the awful guidelines being set by the TV people? In which case I don't really see how boycotting the film they didn't make is going to effect them much.

That said, I never go and see things in the first week anyway. I prefer to wait for the enormous tides of people to die down a bit.

Exactly what percentage of fans are we talking about here, compared to verses the general fan base that will go and spend money, to the point that the intended message will likely be lost in the opening weekend gross.

Ultimately, it comes down to the fact: I love Star Trek, I love both of the new movies, I'm super excited about Beyond and I will be seeing it at a time of my choosing, and I want to see it the day it comes out. Based on CBS' reaction with the guidelines means that they are willing to have guidelines, there just needs to be formal and legal talks about it.

Boycotting Star Trek is going to end in one way, based off the CBS execs being ♥♥♥♥s - they will shut it down. No more Trek at all is not a future I'm wanting. Whilst the guidelines are awful, at least they are there, they aren't set in stone and can be changed, boycotting will just piss them off. Unlike the British, CBS doesn't own half the world, nor does it have the other half dedicated to defeating it.

I personally think that the better course of action, is to sit down with CBS and talk with them, at the end of the day it doesn't matter what anyone else says: Star Trek is legally and whole heartedly thier property, and they can do whatever the hell they like with it. It's not great, but that is what it is.
