    EPISODE DISCUSSION

    The Game

    SUMMARY

    Riker returns from leave on Risa with an exciting new game for the Enterprise crew to play. Soon enough almost the entire crew is playing it and starting to act strangely.

    DISCUSSION

    Obviously this was a bit of a silly episode, I mean, what are the chances of an extremely simplistic augmented reality game being released that all of a sudden almost everyone is playing that compels them to completely change their behaviour?

    What did you think of the episode? Did you like the rather inventive alien takeover attempt? What are your thoughts on Wesley being the one not interested in the game? Lastly what did you think of the special effects? Jonathan Frakes wasn't too impressed himself "They told me it was going to be this incredible graphic, and all it was... was a tuba on a checkerboard".

    Now if you'll excuse me I've heard rumours of a Growlithe around here. I will catch 'em all and if Wesley tries to stop me I'll just have to shut him up, permanently.

    I liked this episode just because as you said it was a silly episode. It got a thumbs up for me because it had Ashley Judd in the episode. One of my favorite actresses. To me it made sense that Wesley didn't just put the game on and use it. Now the part about the game changing the behavior of the person wearing it is plausible. You saw how the crew was affected in the first season episode "The Naked Now". Of course the problem I had was that I can't believe that at one point there wasn't somebody noticing the behavior and bringing it up to someone. Another thing that bothered me was that it seemed that the higher level you reached in the game the more you didn't seem to care about the outside environment except for the command crew who seem to be able to sabotage Data so that he would not be able to stop them.

    I liked the episode and of course the cute Ensign that Crusher has the hots for. I would DEFINITELY want to play that game lol, but then my poor TOR & STO chracters would be neglected. Who wouldn't play that game 24/7, since it's basically virtual brown chicken brown cow Big Grin

    Ashley Judd did look rather nice, it's a shame Robin Lefler was only in a couple of episodes, then of course Peter David got his hands on her and as with seemingly every character he writes about turned them in to a running gag.

    I was kinda on the fence about the episode, a definite 'meh' to me.

    However, I was joking with a friend of mine the other day on how this explosion of Pokemon reminded me of this episode. Glad to see I wasn't the only one.
