Do you preorder games?

There are risks involved when you preorder a game, do you take the risk and understand that the game might not work on launch or do you preorder and fully expect the game to work when it is released? Or, do you just wait until you see the reviews?

Companies try to entice people into preordering games with bonuses and exclusives, but after release, the game usually gets a decent discount in a few months, so do the exclusives make up for this or is it just a waste of money?

There is a lot to talk about when it comes to preordering games! It's not a good practice from a consumer stand point, customers lose out with preorders, I don't think the exclusives are that valuable in many cases. Yet, I still preorder some games, I know it might be broken when it comes out, or just be a disaster, but I've bought many terrible games, it's a gamble.

Where do you stand?

I guess I did prepurchase Stellaris, but I can't think of the last game I actually preordered...unless backings and pledges count, then it's Star Citizen.

I've mostly given up on preordering games.Between digital distribution making games instantly available and easy access to reviews, it just makes more since to wait and see rather than taking the gamble.

Backing a game I would say is slightly different because you don't even know if there's a game at the end of it! Although Star Citizen is good at keeping people informed and having downloadable builds of various things, generally speaking though, backing a game is ordering before there is even a product.

Unless I know the company and I personally have anticipated it, I do not take the risk.

When Blizzard offered me Beta for certain legacy games, I was impressed and started looking into pre-ordering games they made so long as I supported/played the previous ones.

I pre-order games as well as get digital version when I'm excited about the games, but normally this is only for Blizzard titles since as muych as the company has a negative rep (when people cant get what they want) I normally always do this.

With the exception of Overwatch, I have pre-ordered every Blizzard game I could, plus either got the collectors or Digital Version.

Currently standing it is the ONLY Blizzard title I do not own. STO I wanted to pre-order but instead I got the Bonus one where I got a TOS starter ship way back when.

Due to recent event I have NOT pre-ordered Legion nor its digital deluxe version as I have intended. simply my PC took a dirt nap and I am forced (for a time) to run on a old laptop running XP. its terrible, but manageable or older games (plus I cans till run my business from this PC)

My question for you guys, has anyone ever supported a MOD via donations? I haven't since I am always weary, but in many ways I see that as pre-ordering a game (even though its a mod), but again since its fan based and not an official company, I never seem to get the courage to support such things.

It all really depends on a couple of things.

The game really has to impress me, like The Division did (love it or hate it, I like the game).

The game has be a sequel or part of a continuing series, Like Mass Effect, I will preorder Andromeda when it comes out.

Or it'll have to be a staple franchise that you simply MUST have... like Pokemon... *stares longingly at my Pokemon Sun preorder receipt*

*goes to play WoW, as I've also pre-ordered the expansion*

If it's a game I want every time- I've had mass effect Andromeda on pre-order for over 6 months already! Lol

I'm a bit cautious when pre-ordering games, I've done it for some small (say, £10) games on Steam but I'm not going to go any higher for a game that isn't out yet. I like to see what the gaming community thinks, read some reviews before I make the leap and purchase an expensive game.

All I can say is, I'm glad Steam Refunds exist.

For me, it just depends on the game. Right now, I have Farming Simulator 2017 on Steam pre-order. But, I've played '13 and '15 and I enjoy the game. I find it relaxing oddly enough.

I pre-ordered The Division and Mass Effect 3.

I was pretty much sold on The Division based on gameplay previews, my participation in the beta and my preference for co-op games. Got the season pass. The game has a number of issues, which is to be expected for an online game, but I have no regrets so far in pre-ordering this game.

As for pre-ordering Mass Effect 3, I enjoyed the first two games so I was excited to play the final chapter of the trilogy and pre-ordered ME3. It was great until the game's endings soured the experience. I will say though I have to give credit to Bioware for trying to fix things with a free dlc but the damage is done; I cannot unsee what has been seen. The first two games were fun to play but knowing how badly the trilogy ended has kept me from playing those games again. For that reason, I regret pre-ordering ME3.

So I've heard but I don't trust Bioware anymore, not after it was acquired by EA. I'm not paying more for something that should have been in the game in the first place.

I have pre ordered pretty much every WoW expansion since Lich King. You are right about the dangers of pre-ordering. I preordered Star Trek for the X360 and was so disappointed in the game.

I hear it was quite a disappointing game, never played it personally, being JJTrek and the bad press put me off!

I can't remember a game I preorded and it turned out to be bad, the worst was probably Fallout 4 but it was still enjoyable to play, so no regrets on that one! Most of my preorders are safe bets, well known developer and knowing what to expect, a Fallout game is probably going to be a buggy mess.
