I'm secretly hoping Blizzard will un-♥♥♥♥ the Professions in Legion. Professions had become largely useless due to the garrisons.
Assuming they will again be of some use in Legion, what professions would be most useful for the guild and what would you suggest for a Warrior?

I have Skinning/Leatherworking on Demon Hunter, Alchemy/Tailoring on Shadow Priest, though there aren't any new bags coming with Legion, Hexweave still the biggest. Maybe Mining/Blacksmithing for a warrior? I think as a guild, we have everything covered, so, go with the ones that will help you out most!

I stopped bothering with Professions on my characters once they started to nerf the benefits of having them in to the ground, when engineers could have an array of attachments on their gear, blacksmiths with more sockets and so on.
In Legion I believe they're overhauling them big time but I've not really looked at them on the Beta.

I always thought professions (like crafting gear) were useful at the start of an expansion, but as patches and new constant came out those would become obsolete?
Do they not still do this? I remember even one time they made it so the starting PvP gear was crafted and then you upgraded to honor gear and then arena a gear.
Even certain raids would have new patterns to offset items not found on raid bosses (but this died out back in TBC)
It's a shame if they still don't have this method.
It would seem alch and enchanting with be the only benefit a crafting with gathering professions always being useful

Yeh I also gave up on professions when WoD screwed them into the ground. I'm hoping they will have their use again in Legion.
I'll level Cooking as well. Might always come in handy.

JC,
Some Professions are always useful like Enchanters and Alchemy for Enchants and Flasks.
If you read my post, I explained that above.
In Legion crafted gear will also be useful later on.
Later on? so blacksmith/LW/Tailoring will benefit people in higher up raids? or what are you referring to?
Like I mentioned in my former post, normally the Crafting professions help out when leveling and then pre-raid stuff. normally they do not benefit past their raid tiers unless they drop/offer higher tier patterns. Is that what you meant?
Edit: I will add, I did a review of Legion Professions, and none of which show that after the first raid tier, professions will continue to grow. most of this stuff is all for current pre-raid and first raid tier usefulness.
- The Demonic Ash Obliterum will be useful to break down and rebuild gear, Upgrades are always useful. (To obtain Obliterum players will need to break down other crafted items at a special forge that will eventually be unlocked in Dalaran. This opens up a whole other avenue of use for old gear apart from the standard selling and disenchanting of the past.)
- Blood of Sargeras is this expansions special material just like all former expansions which requires to upgrade your gear at the Obliterum.
- Swapping Professions is going to be the best thing Legion has done. if People like Snowbat are wanting to level something and suddenly needs to change to something else (since the guild may have that), paying a 1000g to swop out will be nice!
But as I pointed out, Alch, Jewelcraft, inscription, Enchant will always remain useful as people will need to re-craft while Blacksmiths, Leatherworkers, Tailors, main crafting usefulness stop after the first raid Tier, since they do not have any current plans to offer recipes in higher tiers raids (at least they have yet to announce any). They did offer things like Blacksmiths core hound mount which is nice, but again... the professions take you so far, and then drop off. I love blacksmiths, and will always continue to be a blacksmith/enchanter, but again the usefulness only goes so far. My alt continues to be Jewelcrafting/mining and it will never run of out work.

... while Blacksmiths, Leatherworkers, Tailors, main crafting usefulness stop after the first raid Tier, since they do not have any current plans to offer recipes in higher tiers raids (at least they have yet to announce any).
They no longer add new plans for each raid tier because, effort (models/textures), instead you can upgrade the item level of crafted items so they compete with new raid tiers.
With each new raid tier they will up the level you can upgrade to so the item will be useful throughout most of the expansion, thus making the professions useful throughout most of the expansion. Also some crafting professions can upgrade relic weapons which will be a key item during Legion.
When Legion launches crafted items can be upgraded from item level 815 to 850 using Obliterum Which puts them somewhat close to Normal difficulty raid loot (lots of RNG is involved in raid loot in Legion).

Again which is first raid tier... like I said... I'm talking past the first tier...
I am not sure how else I can explain. your ilevel goes up and in order to get on higher raids you have to increase that iLevel.
The upgrade do this... but only so far..... after of which... it becomes obsolete, even after you upgrade that item, that item will become obsolete and only raid gear will be useful, making your professions go down in its usefulness.
Alch, Enchant, Jewel, these professions will never outlast its usefulness. technically blacksmiths can socket so it wont either, but for the most part, I'm telling you, Blizzard is aware of the useful of certain Professions over others. keep an eye out for the changes at BlizzCon, perhaps they will clarify better since I do hope they work on improving this.

There wouldn't be a point in raiding constantly if you can just get all the good gear through crafting.
So you understand my point then, some professions will becomes less effective then other. That's what I was trying to explain.

Oh yeah it's not as effective, I agree with you on that. It's just that you said that they're useless after the first tier of the expac which is not the case for WoD and Legion.
I don't recall saying useless, again I mentioned even i have blacksmith/Enchanting and they are useful, but not as useful as say Jewelcrafting/Mining.
I believe you got me and Snowbat quotes mixed up.

Yes, you did get it mixed up since I never said they are useless.
I said they don't become as useful.
You can still use them for other things, but the gear becomes obsolete.
Someone else said they were completely useless not me.
I'm not sure why the discussion needs to continue. It's almost like an argument now, not should of happened. I made my point, and like I said Blizzard may have some more to say about upcoming content come BlizzCon.

Windows XP is pretty useless, can't play the new Deus Ex.
Professions don't seem to be obsolete, someone is always going to want the crafted gear of the latest expansion because it gives them a good start, so still good for making dosh!

Lol I need to get some spare cash for a new laptop!
But so far all the classic games run smoothly for me which is a nice change since win10 has so many issues running old school!
And professions are always useful to those who do not have them, which means no profession will ever be useless (that's why I never said useless), but in terms of self usage ... Yeah after awhile my black smithing is eventually used only for sockets and buckles!
