SHOULD CLICKBAIT TITLES BE REGULATED?
A fair number of internet news sites and advertisements use the method of clickbait, trying to get your curiosity to get the best of you. It has become far more prevalent as social media expands and competition grows, but is it worth it? Are people going to take a news story seriously if the title misrepresents the content, or will they buy a product that is misleading in the advert? The answer is probably yes, Buzzfeed is still popular after all! Although the strategy is nothing new, tabloids have been doing it for a long time to get people to buy their paper, it's just got a new, fancier name to fit with the online world.
Should media regulate the use of such titles? Putting an end to sensationalist headlines for more descriptive and accurate titles, while probably nowhere near as interesting, it gives the reader a better understanding. Or do you support the idea of clickbait? It's eye catching and draws people in, as well as in some cases, sparking discussion, causing controversy and making sure the topic is talked about.

I do NOT support the idea of clickbait. I really can't take a news story seriously if the title misrepresents the content and frankly I don't see the point of doing that : yes people will talk about the topic but they will talk badly about it and/or the website practicing clicbait. I can't understand how a website such as Buzzfeed don't care about it's reputation... I really hope that some day regulation of the use of such titles will be put in place.

I click ONCE. If it takes more than one, I kind of figure what they're pushing ain't what they're claiming it is and I'm not wasting my time.

I have never really been a fan of clickbait, I generally don't really visit websites that have clickbait headlines but I do know some YouTube channels purposely put clickbait in their video titles to try and get people to click them which is a bit disappointing. Whenever I see clickbait headlines it generally makes me not want to visit that website/youtube channel etc again, no matter how good the content may be.
