I feel that it does still stand the test of time; it explains Earth's start in being part of the big galactic picture. It touches on humanity's potential more so than the other films.
Data was in a lot of conflicting positions. Which position in particular are you referring? Generally speaking, I hope my sense of duty and loyalty would stand up to whatever the Queen may offer.
If the Borg succeeded with a population of 9 billion drones on Earth, I imagine the galaxy would also be overrun considering Earth's location as a stronghold with easy access to both Alpha and Beta Quadrants. As we all know, the timeline is never irreparably altered, haha.
