Has EVE Online become any good since going F2P? Not that it was bad before, but I'm curious if anything has changed.

From what little I've played of it since, I can tell you there's a lot more flash. Not so sure about substance. For example, docking now has an entire animation where you watch your ship fly into the dry dock; there's a lot more exposition and story involved with the tutorial missions; and a lot more voice acting.

Case by case really, if you've invested years into it and try the game as f2p, you're quite limited on ships/parts so if lvl 4's or other fancy stuff was your thing, you won't be able to do those. Of course if you're able to do lvl 4's in a Cruiser, then rock that out

If mining is your thing, then won't be able to do much of that as f2p. Could of course fit a ship with mining stuff or drones, but probably not effectively enough to make it worth the time unless you had a buddy (or alt account) with you that had a transport ship so you can just dump and keep mining.

Drones are kind've a pain now. I get it though cause I used to just warp into a lvl 4 mission, aggro the entire room, then let my drones out and just tab out or afk in some way. Can't do that now, they consistently get aggro so you really got to watch them. Sometimes it feels like I should just equip a more pew pew type ship instead of using a drone boat but I can't help it - I love drones. Gallante ftw!

On the pvp side of things, no idea. I rarely participate as the way this game works, it just doesn't excite me. Probably still lots of Red vs. Blue type things that could be fun.

I'm having a rough time finding stuff to train on my "main" character. All the stuff that's unlocked, I've already trained lol. I do have an alt, so I thought about just getting him up some skills just so I got something going.

Well, as its s F2P you could always give it a go! Since F2P I have played a lot of EVE, as I personally love it. But as Chrome said, it is all a case-by-case basis.

I think its entirely circumstantial.

If you're an old EVE player with a high spec character trying to do F2P, you are going to hit limitation walls HARD. Its similar to the restrictions Trial Accounts had, but much more painful.

If you're starting out from brand new, you won't even notice the limitations all that much. You're capped at Cruiser level, which is not bad considering a cruiser can do you upto and including L3 missions. As a new chara, you'll find you can do most everything in a Destroyer. You're limited to your faction weapon tech, which can be a little restrictive if you like to mix it up, but for the most part - its a lot of fun.

Mining you're restricted to the mining frigate or mining in a combat ship. Again, I've done this in the past and its not the most AMAZING way to mine, but you can still do it.

Either way, its all down to perception.

This basically. I tried a new Alpha state (giving some credits from my older Omegas) and it's a lot of fun. Just need time, and maybe a better computer to play it on.

I have to know the story behind that Avatar Kerry. I see a Nemesis flying into a bunch of missiles launched from a leviathan.

Anyways, I don't really think the game has changed all that much from before it was F2P. Systems have changed, and there have been improvements, especially to the new player experience, but if you tried EvE anytime in the past year or so, and didn't like it, it's still mostly the same game.
Still, seeing that you can play for free, now there's not much reason not to give it a try. The restrictions may sound annoying, but there's actually a lot you can do with what they do give you (sure you can't use any of the fancy stuff, but most situations call for a pile of frigates or cruisers, which you can fly as an Alpha)

With the exception of using Mining Barges, there's nothing you can't do as an Alpha Clone in High Sec that you realistically can't do as an Omega. There are no threats in High Sec that can't be dealt with effectively by a Cruiser/Destroyer/Frigate. Most mission running can be done in one of those. There's also a special Battlecruiser that can be used by Alpha Clones if that's your thing.

Only real limitation is the fact that you're stuck in a Venture for mining, which whilst isn't the mining machine that a Barge is - it is no slouch. If you're using it as part of a full on Mining Op with dedicated haulers, you can easily play with the big boys.

It is a great game, and at the moment I can't get enough of it! Even if mining isn't your thing, we always could use guards for our mining ops, of which you will get paid for - or least we need to come up with some way of compensating those who join in. At the moment, everything we do mostly is for the betterment of the corporation, getting us more assets and materials for construction.

If anyone does want to join in, please feel free to put a message in corp chat when you are in the corp, and I will be more than happy to come help out in anyway I can. Definitely worth giving a go, especially as you don't need to spend money on it now!

Just remember, the more you put in, the more you get out!
