I think the limit of two ships is a good idea. I also like the previous author if I understood it correctly, for us to perhaps spend most the focus on our primary Starship, but an alternate could be played similar to other crew members (OOC or as 3rd Party) in a supporting role to your main?

I was also going to ask... I've started to see people thinking about the type's of Ship they want to manage and saw one with 7 weapons yet another with 26. Now the USS Andromeda is getting it's number's from the example ship template based on the ARES Template; however, I thought since we have a model designed by STO why not base it on that? The Tier 3 - Tier 5 ships identified would be in service or just entering service for the timeline?

I never considered someone having two ships. Might take a lot to run just one, but I suppose i don't care if someone wants to try two.

To keep things easier to manage, it might be a good idea to at least set in place a limit to ships (maybe no more than two for example).

Since the timeline is still late 23xx should we try to base any posted specifications about are ships more similar to what's listed in STO for T2-T5u class of Starships?

I'm sorry Strathkin but I don't play STO and I really don't known what is T2-T5u class of Starships
EDIT : I saw your links, thank you ^^ As I understand the Andromeda would be a Tier 5 starship

I personally don't want my ship to be based on STO since I don't play it, but more on the Memory Alpha / Memory Beta template (even if I raised it's warp speed/phaser banks type : that will be part of my story)

And furthermore my ship got 26 weapons because she's a Heavy Exploration Cruiser while Caymen's ship got 7 because she's a Scout/Escort (Light Warbird) ^^

Yeah, we do need to avoid the Tiers/Levels of our ships and look more to the standards on MA/MB. Refits and tweaks are always fine, of course. However, we do need to be careful that an over-powered ship spec does not affect our writing. If Eagle came in and wrote that he just blew my ship out of the water (he probably could, unless we cloaked in time), that just wouldn't be a compelling story, so he hopefully wouldn't do that. We would add in other elements, like negotiations or NPC "friends" nearby or... pick your plot wrinkle.

Balance is what's about - have some fun and make a cool ship. But also, keep it so you're not the Q.

In fact, I may bring my ship down a tad simply because I used STO-era specs. But yeah, she'll be what the Rommies called a "Swift Warbird" (from MB: http://memory-beta.wikia.com/wiki/T%27varo_class ) made for escorts and quick diplomatic runs. Her captain is a pretty good diplomat, afterall.

Also remember we're in the 2380s/2390s so we don't have all the cool uber-tech of STO. We have great ships, just not kitted out and min/maxed for pure combat.

EDIT: That said, feel free to use some STO imagery, as they have some great stuff for ships. Like add some flare to a Galaxy to make it fit your personal style, but don't give it the plasma shockwave of doom.

I intend to have my ship and its crew their own flaws, the Andromeda is a Federation ship : she is powerful only to be able to defend herself, so I won't blow your ship

Were all actually on the exact same page here, I realize now the ARES specification came from Memory Beta based on Sovereign Class, as did your Romulan Warbird so I'm fine to use that guide for consistency...

I only raised the question so everyone had one location we were using to cross reference ship specifications; yet agree roleplay is much more fun with a focus on Diplomacy & Exploration, it was even something I mentioned in the STO forums I'd love to see a return to before they announced exactly that.

EAGLESG ship may be a little more impressive than mine (Advanced Heavy Cruiser), but I'll be happy to have a modernized Excelsior Class Retrofit.

Now I just need a little time to come up with a ship name, the primary character I intend to play, then I create some thread & templates like the others.

I think I might dust off my old personal favourite from my old simming days, and bring the USS Ticonderoga out of mothballs.

Whilst the Excalibur Class isn't strictly canon, it is a fan favourite, and does appear in STA 1,2,3.

Are we limited to canon vessels?

...Then if we do missions (singular ship missions or joint misions), we could put those in the Captains Log sub or maybe another sub, and link to those as well. This might keep the dossiers cleaner.

FYI, I am working to see if we can get this going. So if you're itching to start a solo mission, hold tight and we may have a place for those. I'm working on a template for mission thread starters.

And yes, I will have a mission pack soon so we can all start working together.
