It is my pleasure to announce the first 2017 short story competition! It has been quite some time since we last had one and I hope that we are able to start off the year with a good one. This competition is designed to be broad enough to allow anyone to participate, so long as you are a UFP member - which I am sure most people interested will be.
The competition will be held, so long as it is popular enough, the month after every UFPAC, to allow a semi-regular competition whilst also providing people with enough time to think of some more ideas, or maybe even just kick back and relax. The first one is now open to submissions, and can be a story based on anything, the only limitation being that it has to be Star Trek.
Future versions will have varying eras and themes that the stories will be based on, but for now all you need is something Star Trek! Just participating in the competition means you will get a UFP achievement, but being voted the best story from this competition could bring you more!

I might just have a go at this. I'll probably retool one of my older short stories that would fit into Star Trek pretty decently if I change some aspects.
