I'm interested in one of the T5 versions. are they still worth it to buy?

The T5s are going to be inferior to the T6 versions, the biggest difference being one less BOff ability and one less console. That's not actually a huge difference, mind you.

Any particular reason you're looking at the T5s instead of T6s?

I was looking at the quantum field focus controller console that comes with the Reconn explorer. I wanted to do a phaser build. But now Im thinking of getting the vesta, and (1) T6 variant

I purchased them last night and had about 5 minutes to try one out. Now I'm leaving for a work trip for 6 nights....While I have STO on my laptop, hotel internet leaves a lot to be desired. Looks like I'm going to just be playing the the build tool on STO Academy for a while before I get to really use mine.

The T5 Vesta consoles aren't great, but I've always liked the two-piece for the qualify of life (warp speed) upgrade.

As a full set, they're lackluster due to having shared cooldowns on abilities with different roles. If you need a heal - whoops, you fired your phaser before you need healing. If you need the invulnerability - whoops, you fired your healing because you had been taking damage. (This could have been changed since I last flew the Vesta, long ago.)

Is the Phaser Lotus worth a console slot? Eh, I'm not sure about that.
Is the Phaser Lotus worth buying and taking a slot? Eh, probably not.

I'm assuming you mean the Focus Phaser.

Anyways...T5 consoles are meh for the most part on a lot of ships. However, t6 consoles tend to each provide a passive in addition to set bonus which can be useful.

I find the kelvin console passives plus set bonus to be nice and can be equipped on any ship while the active abilities are take it or leave it for me.

It really isn't worth it to be honest...it isn't that great and besides...you can basically get a similar ability with the 3 piece set from http://sto.gamepedia.com/Quantum_Phase_Catalysts Which also has more than just a damage component and the console is pretty good for sci and phaser builds.

Only downside is it's not orange it's a blue beam.

Only reason to buy the T5s is for the skins. You won't get those if you go T6 only.
