I just finished watching Episode 3, and OMG this was the Trek we have not seen for decades on TV. The Episode was comparable\ equal to The Measure Of A Man or The Offspring.

You got me wanting to watch it, I got to make time for it now haha got my hopes up.

I'm personally loving the show, even more as it continues and finds it's feet. The first two episodes had a lot of humour in them but it's settling down now as they find the balance between the two and I think they're hitting it pretty well as far as being a serious Sci-Fi show that tackles issues in the same way that Trek used to do, the last two episodes very much having the essence of old school Trek, like Bridger said about the third episode being the closest to Trek we've seen on TV in a decade while having enough humour to keep things funny without it being over the top.

And the Liam Neeson cameo at the end of the last episode was cool, same with Robert Knepper being the bad guy. As far as the A-Listers appearing goes, it's going to be interesting as some people might look on it as a great way to draw people in to watch the show, others might view that as a cheap way of doing it. Personally I think it's a good thing for now but not necessarily something they should get in the habit of doing. However in the case of Liam Neeson and Charlize Theron it's more understandable since Seth has worked with both of them and makes sense, if you know them and can get them to do it why not take advantage of that.

After watching episode 4 I couldn't help but think "this is how Star Trek used to be". I have yet to see an episode of Discovery, but signs are a mixed bag so far (not that I'm hunting for reviews either).

I think Seth is doing a great job trying to make this show "his". Yet, I also think he is showing respect to the genre because there are a LOT of people know "Star Trek" and what expectations come from that.

I don't mean to harp about it, but is it just me or has Grayson's character actually changed looks over each episode? Maybe it's the hair ...

I saw Andre Bormanis in the Orville's credits of the pilot episode. I found that pretty cool cause he was science consultant & writer for TNG and onward. He also wrote this book:

where he gets into Trek's notorious 'technobabble', of which you hear so much from Trek's actresses and actors on conventions..

So yeah, the Orville should have the level of familiar scientific credibility we trekkies grew accustomed to over the years
