I just ran across this while browsing and discovered that the lifetime sub for STO is now on sale for $199.99 as opposed to $299.99, I am actually thinking about going for it, is it worth it?
Also I am adding the link to the STO article here. Let me know what you think!
I am personally excited because of all the benefits, such as the 500 Zen per month for lifetime.

My reasoning, back when the Lifetime came out, was for the Liberated Borg and for me, I think I got my monies worth from when I got it to now. It depends on how long you expect to be playing as well. But I never regretted getting it!

I purchased in Beta, and never regretted it. But are there enough years left in the game to earn the savings? Depends how long you will play.

Also from beta and never regretted having the LTS. It has paid for itself several times over by this stage and the monthly zen is a nice little extra. The day may come when STO disappears into a black hole, but that day is still some ways off I reckon - leaving the licence stuff aside from CBS for a moment, STO is a big earner for PWE/Cryptic and they'd be mad to shutter it if they didn't absolutely have to.

I took mine after a year playing STO i never regret to have made that purchase. Getting 2 free ship for each faction is good enough for me. I have a Romulan that is level 53 and already flying a T6 where i am upgrading the equipment.
It is a good choice. if you do the math and you pay each months, take 2 years to pay for a LTS. After that you get your money worth.

I've been playing since the Beta, but only paid for about 6 months at the beginning. I left the game briefly as I could only afford so many subscriptions, and I think I was playing WoW and/or something else at the time. However, I returned to STO when it went Free2Play, and I've been played STO ever since.
I too have struggled each time the sale comes about whether I should go for it (buy the lifetime) or not because I'm not likely to ever put the game down again even up to the point they decide to close it altogether. But my time is limited more and more as the years go by with a growing family.
- I'm not likely to start a new character just to have a Liberated Borg, nor do I maintain a lot of alts.
- I already have a lot of ships for all the factions from all the ships they've given to us for free over the years.
- I play the ARC quest games, so I get a bit of free ZEN every month.
- If I want a certain ship, I'll usually actually pay for it or wait till I earn enough ZEN.
- The other Lifetime specific ships/uniform options don't seem worth it to me for the price (even if they are cool).
What else is left that I'd gain buying the Lifetime Subscription? Granted, I would have definitely said YES a lot quicker 5-7 years ago if I had the available funds.

Reading from above, I guess it's very subjective to your time on STO really.
If you're still new to the game, and have alot more to experience and do - LTS seems great. However, if you're a veteran with majority of what the game has to offer, LTS seems a little redundant other than the Borg/Talaxian playable, Veteran ships, Veteran uniforms/badges and the space fireworks emote.
I've subscribed for a few months and left it at that, bought the ships I wanted - and have ALOT of them. I actually have all ships upto T5 in all factions, T6 is where I plain stopped buying and have majority of them in Federation and probably just one in Klingon.
I agree with Buckaroo, considering the amount of money I spent on buying ships and other unlocks - if I had the funds back then for a LTS - I'd do it.

The biggest boon to having a lifetime sub is the increased levelling from the 700-day subscriber buff, made even better if you play a Talaxian for either KDF or FED (Why they didn't include one for Romulans, I don't know...) with their 5% Team Skill Points bonus. If you're like me and have 14 character slots and only 1 free... leveling faster is always a plus (normally, new toons I start are lv50 by the time they get to lv30 level missions).
Plus, having $5 worth of Zen given to you every month is great, you can normally make 40-50mil EC selling keys.

I am kind of in the same situation as you are, Zairu. I also came across the LTS and could not really decide if it is worth it. So it is fascinating to hear all your different thoughts about it.
If now would be five years ago I would not hesitate to subscribe immediately. But at the moment I am not sold 100% if it is still worth it. Granted, I have only one main character I have been developing during the last year and I think I made some progress there. But in regards to any alts I am basically still at the beginning and to be honest I simply do not have the time to put effort into them.
With that in mind, farming for anything which improves what I already have can be pretty hard, so the 500 ZEN per month would be a huge help. On the downside, if you calculate it you gain basically stuff like inventory and bank slots worth about 50$, then you still have 150$ to earn back which translates into 30 month. This brings me to the question: Do you think STO will last for another 3 years?
I agree that it is also tempting to play as Liberated Borg. But it is not an easy go for it for someone who has only one character really noticeable finished in the game ever. So I need to think this over. But as I said, this thread is really helpful for decision.

There's no real benefit to playing one if you only do space missions, but on ground missions, their default trait pool can make them pretty tanky, and Neural Blast is a good ability to knock a foe down.

I sometimes only play one or two missions a day, if even that, heck, since the Risa event started i have done a single mission other than the floater thing so I can get the free ship.
Yet with as little as I play, I coughed up for LTS just 2 sales ago and have not regretted it in the least. Although I do have a "main" character, I have a bunch of alts, almost all at level 60 although a lot of them haven't gotten past Nimbus, and a few haven't even completed the beginning story Arc. Level em to 12 and do Doff missions every day (or when you think about it), next thing you know you're at level 60. All of those toons have a free respec token from Season13, plus a bunch of others from LTS perks so if/when I get serious about em I can play around a lot as I go through the missions.
That means I also have a lot of crafters available for when I want to try for some good stuff. As I always do beams first, when I want new beams, like phasers for my new T6 Miranda (bought with my free zen), I can basically craft 30-40 of them at a time hoping for the magic combination of mods I want. If I had the time/motivation to run admiralty on them all, I could be farming some decent dilithium numbers also (and refining an extra 1,000 per day. All with the extra toon slots LTS gives you.
Then of course there's all the extra inventory and bank slots, boff slots etc.
Although it was really tough scraping up the funds to buy my LTS when I did, I am extremely happy I did it.

Hello all, I just want to say thank you to everyone who helped me make this decision, before I made this decision I did read and take everyone’s comments into consideration, even if I am replying just now life kind of gets in the way of me replying so, my apologies.
If I had the free time to play STO 5 years ago regularly I would have jumped at the opportunity, to put it shorty I didn’t have the time because I was in the Navy.
I have my one Main (Zairu) and I have a few alts at Lv 60 and my KDF toon is still at 50 :/ I also have different Alts as well, to avoid buying re-spec tokens and such, in that sense the 500Z does tend to help quite a lot as it will help me trim the fat a little, plus the grinding on the alts will help since I won’t have to use them for specific builds with the retrain tokens.
Now to answer one of my fears after having just gotten back into STO. ( I took quite a break when I was stationed in Japan because the base internet was awful, then I was never home from deployment long enough to want to sink time into it.) Does STO have enough life left in her, and does it matter?
Personally I would like to address this in two ways, STO’s overall life time to make it worthy of purchase. You get 500Z each month, which equivalates to $5 USD. So it would take 40 Months of just the Zen to make the purchase at least equivalate. Now to mention the other things you get, the Veteran Ships, lets assume it is a regular 3PC ship bundle, those currently run 6,000Z or $60, and the same applies to the T5 Variants so it will make it a total of 11,000Z. Now lets assume you only play for another 12 months, that is 6,000 or $60, now we are at a total of between just the ships and Zen, $180.
All the extra benefits I am sure equal out to much greater then 2000Z. So financially it is technically worth it.
To answer my question of would I care, if STO closed six months from now I would be quite upset, but that would only be because I couldn’t enjoy the game anymore, I really do enjoy STO, which addionally is why I went ahead and did in fact get the Veteran membership.
Tell you right now I am in love with the Dinaes Warbird, I like it almost as much as I do the Fleet Mogai (at least right now)
even better if you play a Talaxian for either KDF or FED (Why they didn't include one for Romulans, I don't know...) with their 5% Team Skill Points bonus
I main as a Romulan, so this makes me kinda upset… for obvious reasons.
Plus, having $5 worth of Zen given to you every month is great, you can normally make 40-50mil EC selling keys.[/QUOTE]
That would be helpful too, I really could use a nice stockpile of EC.
I am loving the Veteran ships too, I haven’t played with the FED or KDF variant yet, but my KDF toon can wait a little bit, my main takes precedence. lol
I really hope you right, I would hate to see the game go. I would probably end up learning how to play EVE, and I really don’t want dive headfirst into something like that right now.
My reasoning, back when the Lifetime came out, was for the Liberated Borg and for me, I think I got my monies worth from when I got it to now. It depends on how long you expect to be playing as well. But I never regretted getting it!
Well, I certainly plan to play STO until the shut the servers down. They will have to kick me off first

That is good to hear, 2 sales ago is still fairly recent, I am glad to hear that you’re enjoying it. I hope I do too, I am confident that I will as well.
(Personally I would run the Pulse Phaser Beam Arrays on the Miranda, it would be so gorgeous, that is what I run on my T5U Excelsior)
I purchased in Beta, and never regretted it. But are there enough years left in the game to earn the savings? Depends how long you will play.
I will be playing STO until the kick me off the servers, at least that is the plan.

Zairu - Congrats on your leap of faith and diving in! Seriously, though, It's a purchase I contemplate making every time they do a subscription sale, but I just can't justify it when I want to spend my money on other things (truck lift/upgrades, shed, patio, etc) . Good luck and safe journeys to you!
