To my understanding, the series will take place in 2255. That was the beginning of the Treaty of Armens between the Sheliak Corporate. A bunch of class H planets were given to the Sheliak, then we lost contact. We didn't hear from them again until TNG: "The Ensigns of Command."
Uniform details!

Also, Kirk got promoted to lieutenant on the USS Farragut where he had his first planetary survey mission and visits the planet Neural...so he's around...

Awesome thanks for the information. Uniforms do look pretty neat but I'm not sure how I really feel about them. Especially considering how divisions are not so easily distinguishable as compared to other series.

Not bad looking uniforms, but not quite as practical as those worn in Enterprise. I am feeling better about the show with each little tid bit they release.
I'm sure we will get a lot of fan service in the way of cameos of younger characters featured across TOS. I am curious to see if they will ignore established canon like JJ trek, or if they will try and adhere to the Prime timeline. I am ok with updated visual effects, but we know general time frames for the invention of certain technologies. I hope they also respect the timeline in terms of when certain races were encountered.. I.E. no Borg episodes.

It seems the uniforms don't need as many pockets as time progresses. I think they're going to adhere to the prime timeline; they seem to keep trying to appeal to fans. If they do encounter Borg or Ferengi or anything like that, it has to be for some temporal reason. But, I feel like if they do, that takes away a little from when Q "introduced us for the first time."

The uniforms are based off TMP, I didn't like those uniforms either haha
