Hello to my Fleet Family,

I wanted to take a moment to thank the HERALD team for their incredibly touching mention of me and my wife in the July Herald (page 16 on single page version). We are both so very touched and honoured to be mentioned in the incredible Herald Magazine. Vick and I were so touched by this, that I had it printed at my local UPS store in a Magazine format and Vicki and I have been taking it around to our friends, our colleagues and our family and showing everyone that we were mentioned in this Magazine. Everyone has been blown away by the quality of the Magazine and the impressiveness of the magazine. Most thought it was a real magazine that you subscribed to by snail mail. So once again, we want to thank you and the UFP family for their wonderful wishes and for mentioning us in the prestigious Herald Magazine!

As I am sure everyone is aware by now, I proposed to my girlfriend Victoria on the bridge of the Starship Enterprise on August 12, 2008 at the Star Trek Experience inside of the Las Vegas Hilton Hotel. I am so lucky that she said yes as I was standing there on the bridge in front of a bunch of strangers and a camera. On Saturday, June 26, 2010 we wed at St. Patrick’s Church in Nepean, Ontario, Canada. At the wedding ceremony, I wasn’t nervous at all. I had relaxed all morning with my groomsmen and ushers playing Halo and Call of Duty. We had a stretch hummer, the closest thing we could get to a “Wart Hog”, to drive us to the church. Once we were there and up in front of our family and friends, it was a relaxing time as the priest, during his sermon added in a few words about Star Trek to set us at ease and get the congregation laughing and enjoying this time celebrating with us. The priest said at one point, “Now Chris, Scotty can’t beam you up every time you get in trouble” and “I want to wish you both all the best in life and I feel I can only do it in one special way, may you both Live Long and Prosper”. The congregation knew there was an underlining theme to this wedding, even if it wasn’t visually there, but we topped off the wedding ceremony with one more thing from Star Trek. As Vicki and I were pronounced man and wife, as we started walking down the isle, we received a round of applause, but as the music started playing, the applause fell a bit quieter for a few moments as the congregation realized the background orchestral music was the Main Theme from Star Trek the Motion Picture. The applause level rose again as everyone realized it and hoots and hollers were heard by all, and a little bit of laughter.

During the dinner part of the reception, Vicki and I had created some question cards that were placed on all the tables asking questions about Vicki and I, things that we have done, places we have been, etc.. for people to answer. Questions answered by the guests correctly made Vicki and I kiss. A couple of them had some Star Trek references which are friends all knew right away.

The speeches were loaded with quotes and remarks towards Star Trek and our life together and how I won’t ever be able to “warp speed” my way ‘away’ from Vicki. As well as a couple of Live Long and Prospers were offered (including by me to everyone).

Though we never got a group photo with our vests on, I have given each of my grooms men and ushers a Star Trek Voyager Comm. Badge to wear on their vests under their suites as a symbol of all of us being a crew and them being with me on my final ‘solo’ away mission. I would like to take a moment to Thank Fleet Admiral Hathway for finding and suggesting a person whom to purchase the Communicators from. Without his support, I don’t know if I would have ever found the right badges I was looking for. Thanks so much Hath for everything!

And to top the night off with all the dancing and partying, when it came time for me to go and get Vicki’s Garter, the DJ played (unexpectedly I might add) the Star Trek Original Series TV Theme Song as the song for me to “Go where no man has gone before”. Turns out, the five year mission was the five years that Vicki and I had been together before our wedding. Yay for symbolism.

In the end, the event was amazing! So perfect in everyway and the only thing that could have made it even better would have been to have some of the {UFP} fleet be with us to celebrate.
And now, it’s off to our honeymoon in New Hampshire, USA. Never been but heard its amazing!

Congratulations Cleary! I am glad that the FNN Herald made such positive impact for you! I too hope to make copies of all the issues published under my command for memorabilia.

Anyways, I hope you and your wife have an amazing life together! Live long and prosper!
