They should have used FOV 10 and it would look much better.

Isn't he taking the angle into account because we can see the edge of the ring system?
Shouldn't gravity work the same on any planet, depending on mass? Objects that small can't generate enough gravity to stay round, let alone keep gas and micrometeoroids in a ring.

That depends on the core composition. They are finding Gas planet orbiting near the host star yet we knew that before it was suppose to be only rocky planet. They find Earth like planet much bigger, compare to earth.
Analyzing Star Trek size is a no win scenario because we know Star Trek size is like Microsoft estimated time to install software, Both are fiction.
If writer and producer would create a show in space that reflect what we know, it would be boring because space is black and gray. Just look at the space station or old nasa footage of space. It would not be colorful like they show on TV. And to see something in colors, we would need to be close.

First, they only say "Earth-Like Planet" in the title, but when we read about it, we find out it's not really "Earth-Like" at all. The stories are either saying the planet is about our same size or in its star's "habitable zone," which doesn't really make very "Earth-Like." Venus is about the same size as us, but I wouldn't consider it "Earth-Like" at all.
Second, we know about gas giants in orbits as close, or closer, than Mercury. We found them, we can measure them. Just like we can measure Šteins. We know how gravity behaves with smaller asteroids; they are in our solar system, easy to study. We didn't know these gas giants were orbiting so close to their stars because they don't exist in our solar system, so of course we couldn't study them until recently. Again, asteroids like Šteins are observable in our own solar system, so we know how they behave.
Third, Šteins being an E-type asteroid, having an enstatite (MgSiO3) achondrite surface, has diameter less than 5 km. Could it be the enstatite achondrite surface that prevents it from rounding out? Is the core also enstatite achondrite? Those would be good questions to investigate
Fourth, I'm pretty sure that Mimas, a moon of Saturn, is the smallest "round-bodied" object in the Solar System, with a diameter of about 400 km. Anything less than that is too small, its gravity is too weak to round anything, let alone keep a stable ring system in place.
Bottom line, the planet is just a work of fiction, not meant to be any more than that. They weren't trying to make any scientific case in that scene; they wanted to show how pretty Voyager is in the Delta Quadrant haha which it is.

No offense but when they were making that intro they werent thinking of dimensions. Only trekkes would read way too far into this. On side note, Havent we found, err we think we found, small holes in space containing billions upon billions other galaxies. So, dimension wise im not too concern about it. I think I read another post saying so much we dont know about space. Oh that is so true. There's a lot we think we know about our universe but if only we could just get off this rock and explore it.
