Nope, The badges we're talking about are the specific ST Discovery Starfleet Delta badges that also have the rank on them. Regardless of uniform choice, the Discovery badges are not available for BOFFs. Any other badge can be applied though.

I've checked and I definitely can't give any of my BOFFs the Discovery badges, it's simply not on the list under either badges or rank. Also some of my BOFFs have four colours on their jackets while others only have three. They're all wearing the Discovery Lieutenant version (I've checked). I suspect it may possibly be a bug affecting some players.

There may an explanation for this after digging around on Reddit. I've seen talk that the badges work on player characters and 25th Century boffs, but there's issues with 23rd Century boffs.

Sure:

First, my personal headcanon: my admiral runs the admiralty task force, reputations, and other off ship stuff, with the ship itself being his command center. My designated captain, formerly considered a first officer, runs the ship itself from the bridge. Admiral does the away missions and shuttle missions because he's a badass.


Admiral, with the gold veteran jacket (this is the first time in about a year that I paid enough attention to notice that his rank pips are wrong. I used to put way too much time into this stuff but I've been neglecting it for a while):

Tactical, I actually realized I don't have a security officer set up with this scheme, the Gorn serves that purpose and has a Klingon uniform:


Science and medical (the Vulcan and Trill, respectively). It doesn't show as well as I hoped in screenshots, but medical has a shoulders slightly lighter than the shared jacket color, while science has slightly darker.
Note that the science officer also has the same belt as the admiral and captain, different than everyone else. He's my designated first officer.


The piping on the pants will denote a department head from other senior staff by the shades of gold and department/division colors.

Engineering and Operations (Andorian and Ferengi, respectively). Same scheme as above, with engineering being the darker shoulders and engineering being the lighter. Shows up even less well in screenshots, not very well in game, either.




Didn't grab a screenshot while I was in there, but the Gorn's uniform I rather like, it was an attempt to make sort of the same thing with Klingon pieces, and he's pretty imposing up close. The Klingon on the top row is a work in progress I haven't touched in a few months, trying to blend the style I used in the Jupiter setups with intel and S31 pieces. I've never been entirely satisfied with that one. My original idea was to make him the direct second to the admiral, heading a separate staff from the ship's senior staff, but I never really put that together except picking some boffs for it and giving up on he second's uniform half way through.

Currently I'm playing with things I might do with the Discovery boots, but they'll definitely be replacing my current ones, but maybe only for the top three command officers.

Edit: I noticed posting these that some of them still have the 12th fleet emblem on them because I haven't edited them in a long time, I'll have to go through and make those all match up again.

It seems the 23rd century BOFFs theory is [mostly] true. This is Saelanna, my oldest and original STO character; none of her BOFFs are 23rd century; next to her is her CMO Isthel a 25th century Aenar who definitely has access to the rank badges. I had changed all my bridge crew bar the last two, both human male and both 25th century BOFFs; neither of them had access to the Discovery badges. I couldn't get a decent screenshot but there were also some clipping issues in the collar area on my thick-necked beefcake of a security officer.

Mini bump rather than making a new thread.

I saw on Reddit this morning that the badge issues have been partly fixed by Cryptic. There are still some issues with the 23rd Century doffs, but the missing badges for 25th Century female boffs should now be available.
