Even though we haven’t had a clean look at the D7, that was hint enough that they have screwed it over. Sadly, they kinda have to make the D7 different, just to fit with the new Klingon asthetic they have going. And the pea♥♥♥♥ raiders...wtf...shame, generally I thought the episode was good, but it is laughable that this fits with the prime universe.

I enjoyed the episode, it was quite good to get the focus on Lorca and flesh his character out a bit.

The Klingon ships are radically different to what we're used to. Starfleet vessels still maintain a traditional look and design, but they're veering off a lot on the Klingon front. I don't mind a visual reboot, but I wouldn't have pegged it as a Klingon ship without having been told it was.

Michael Burnham is, quite frankly, boring. Despite being the central character, she's unlikable, uninteresting and generally seems to be all over the place on what she's meant to be and do. This was a pretty poor episode for the character, so they need to do something to keep us paying attention to her in the coming weeks. Hell, Tyler, who is a regular cast member and only appeared for the first time tonight is already shaping up to be quite interesting despite only having a fraction of the screen time to date.
I’m willing to bet this wasn’t the first appearance of “Tyler”

While I agree that most of the Klingon ships will take some getting used to, I really like the new design for the Birds of Prey. However they do look like something cryptic would make for the Romulans in STO.

I am done with it, I was willing to give it a chance but what they have done with the D7, enough is enough how the hell will a Connie look.
Discovery's saucer itself is basically a giant fidgent spinner. I'm sure the Daystrom Institute of this reboot era definitely were researching into trends of 21st century!! Expect the connie to be a fidget spinner too.

Klingon ships look like romulan - so do their fighters/raiders. The story they're building is great, the characters are good - I have embraced them, its just the appearance and effects and the science that is all hard to absorb as change as this point. The deviation is too big to be canon and in sync with other series.

It's a shame really, because I personally feel all these actors are Star Trek worthy. The Klingons included - they're appearance has now grown on me.

Apart from essentially forcing one of his crew into an impossible position, and nearly killing their only way of using the jump, sorry, spore drive......

This was a good episode, but it still isn't Star Trek, especially with the Plank that is Burnham as the main character, oh god we have to save the Tranagrade man....... It sounds like some tripe that can only come from Hollywood atm.

Lorca bits were good, however, there were too few of them compared to the rest of the time code. If I could choose my pain for Dis, then I would have Lorca as the main character.

My interesting take-away from this episode was when Saru was reviewing the most decorated captain's in Starfleet.

I expected Jonathan Archer on there, that was a no-brainer. My interest was piqued by Robert April, Matthew Decker and Christopher Pike.

April and Pike are obviously well known to Trekkies as the Captain's of the USS Enterprise prior to James Kirk. Decker was a Commodore by the TOS era, so not a huge shock, but its nice to see some canon in this show for a change.

I'm not sure of the time-line as to how far before the adventures of TOS this series is supposed to be - as both April and Pike were in their prime when they commanded the NCC-1701 Connie.

Therefore there could be a case that the Connie *is* somewhere around in this timeline. Bear in mind that in ST Canon, the Constitution class was the mainstay of the fleet - the backbone of the exploration effort Starfleet was undertaking.

If we use the original failed pilot The Cage as a reference, Pike was in command of the Enterprise as at 2254 - then given the year being 2256, he’s at least 2 years into his stint at this point.

Kirk for his part should be within one year of graduating from the Academy but is already a LT. rank at this stage and would be approx. 23 years old, becoming Captain of the Enterprise by the time he’s 32 in 2265.

Discovery plays in the year 2256, 10 years before Kirk. We don't know when Aprils five year mission ended but Pike took command of the Enterprise before 2254 at that time the Enterprise should be already 10 years old.

    - - - Updated - - -

During the 2240s, April oversaw the construction of components for a Constitution-class starship at the San Francisco Naval Yards. That vessel eventually became the USS Enterprise, which April later commanded from 2245 to 2250

So I was right in one aspect - the Constitution should be in this time period. Which means at some point, we're liable to see one.

I'd love to see some mentions (or more) of the Enterprise in STD.

It was a good episode with good action, but I felt Lorca is a big variation from any other Starfleet captain we've seen. Any--and every other captain would have taken Mudd with them regardless of what Mudd did to them. Better to take him and throw him in the brig than out and about causing problems.

Saru is starting to begin to bother me. He's a ♥♥♥♥♥♥-bag who can't seem to move past the.. well, past. How did he pass Starfleet Academy when he keeps letting his fears get in the way?

And why throw out the F-word? It's completely unnecessary and I believe has no place in this universe as far as I'm concerned. I want Star Trek to be shareable to my kids, and doing this just makes it one less show I'll be showing them. I grew up on Star Trek with my parents starting with the Original Series. Didn't need curse words then to make a good show, shouldn't need them now.
