-Biography-

A descendant of the 19th Century Human novelist Robert Michael Ballantyne, Lydia Ballantyne had long wanted to be more than just "another face in the crowd".

Lydia grew up in Bellevue, Washington. Being described as an "average" student never discouraged her from pursuing her dream of being in Starfleet. She applied to the Academy at the age of 19 and upon being accepted, quickly became a favorite among the cadets as both someone to look up to as well as a friend. Many of her professors noted that she had many qualities; including leadership, technical expertise, and creative thinking that would likely lead to a distinguished career in command. Though flattered, Lydia's focus was on Engineering and did not seek to shift her career path to Command.

After graduating at the top of her class, Lydia was assigned to the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards as an Engineering Assistant where she put what she had learned at the Academy to good use. After a couple of years of refitting starships and running diagnostics, she was reassigned to the U.S.S. Leeds as a Systems Engineer during routine sector mapping and exploration. This gave Lydia the experience aboard a starship which she was lacking in order to move on to more challenging assignments.

Showing great presence of mind, fortitude, and dedication during a battle with two Romulan warbirds, Lydia was promoted to full Lieutenant, and temporary Chief Engineer of the U.S.S. Leeds after many the ships' senior officers were killed. After limping back to the closest Starbase, which took almost 2 months; Lieutenant Ballantyne was again reassigned, this time to the U.S.S. Endeavour.

While working again as a Systems Engineer, the Chief Engineer of the Endeavour took a leave of absence for unspecified reasons and for an indefinite amount of time. After much deliberation, the Commanding Officer of the Endeavour, Captain Kate Hathaway, promoted Lydia to Chief Engineer with the rank of Lieutenant Commander.

Though now Chief of Engineering, Lydia isn't concerned with rank and title. She feels at home in Engineering tinkering with systems and replacing relays and she is excited to see what new experiences are around the corner.
