So, I posted a couple of weeks ago about the Desperate Hours novel really diving into the Burnham-Sara relationship.
The novel has also addressed some other little tidbits about the Discovery time period including the uniforms. In the novel the USS Shenzhou teams with the USS Enterprise to deal with an issue with a colony. The Enterprise crew is wearing the “new” uniforms from The Cage. It is stated in the novel that it is a new and possibly prototype Starfleet design and only crews of the constitution class ships (thus far) are issued them. The novel takes play approximately 1 year before Battle of the Binary Stars I believe. It’s possible that these prototypes were issued on select ships before the final uniform design (TOS) was issued to all of Starfleet.
They also address the holo-communications. Apparently holo-comma are bandwidth intensive and are very difficult to encrypt insinuating that is why Starfleet abandoned them in the 2250’s.
If anyone hasn’t picked up the book I highly recommend. It’s possible that the reason I am enjoying Discovery more than some others is because of the additiaional backstory and continuity explainations.
