Build Considerations:
As above, the goal for the build is to be a “support” role: making it easier for others on the Team to do their desired jobs. This is fun for me and my preferred playstyle. As such, I designed the build for less maximum personal DPS and more allowance to let others maximize their own.
I’ve gone back to using my precious Spiral Waves Disruptors. Yet, I really enjoy the Trilithium 2-pc (it’s console adds wanted EPS along with weapon haste) which is Phaser-type. Also, the Prolonged Phaser Beam Array is considered the second-best weapon in the game (best being a Disruptor type) AND I recently got my Terran Task Force Phaser. To use all these means using [Beam] Vulnerability Locators.
Cruisers tend to be slow turning, so for broadsiding, finding maneuverability is important. The Prevailing Engines grant a short-term boost to turn and speed when a BOff hull or shield heal is applied. To this end, there are three avenues.
For BOff cooldown management (CDM), I am relying on a mix of Skill Tree Readiness and Kremin Bridge Officers, based on the Kraken Build doctrine. With three heals sitting in the Engineering abilities, then lowering recharge time is key to maintaining speed and turn through the engines, as above. Tactical and Science abilities are lowered through Readiness skills as well. With fewer Tactical and Science BOff abilities available, the “work” in this build comes from Engineering. As described in the link, these means my DOffs play a less active role as their chance to do X is less relied upon, as needed for A2B, Dragon and Drake builds.
Having said that, the Starship Trait Improved Weapon Emitters (along with the Temporal Operative Secondary Specialization) allows for a quasi-radboat to be used. So, four abilities are dedicated in this regard with two being Overwhelm Emitters; having a copy has about a 90% uptime even with no other CDM available. Removing this Trait will certainly allow for more “traditional” abilities to be used, like Auxiliary to Battery and likely increase my DPS. Again, I’m trying to support other players by not chasing the highest DPS numbers, while also trying to keep my own efforts respectable.
