If you could create your own Star Fleet ship class... what would it be?

Here is my idea.


Class name: Brisbane.

Construction location: Utopia Planitia.

Construction date: 2356.

Ship Class Purpose: Advanced Survey Vessel. used for extremely detailed surveys of planets and spatial anomalies. Not intended for deep space missions as it lacks any proper defences but rather used for the use in UFP borders were civilian and star fleet scientist can study an object, particle, artefact, pre-warp civilisation with all the latest facilities. (Note that prime directive is always a constant when dealing with pre-warp civilisations thus the Brisbane class is given advanced imaging and scanning equipment, so they can be studied from afar.)

Officer Compliment: 450 with a maximum hold of 540 in case of civilian scientists or emergencies.

Length: 503.45 meters.

Height: 236.09 meters.

Phaser arrays: 2 forward, 2 aft, 1 underside.

Torpedo Tubes: 1 forward, 1 aft.

Interesting Characteristics: The class does not have the cylinder 'drive' section of most starships, but instead has an increased saucer height to accommodate a large advanced sensor array. the naselles are connected to the sauser via two 25 meter long beams, making them very close to the hull. Hanger bays are on either side of the sauser.

Other: the ship contains dozens of different servery sections such as an astrometric lab double the size of the one on the Intrepid class.

Class name: Voyager-class

Construction location: Utopia Planitia shipyards

Construction date: 2402

Ship Class Purpose: Deep Space exploratory vessel, used for long-term exploration of unexplored space, perhaps in the Delta Quadrant.

Officer Compliment: 20

Crew Complement: 200, 20 of which are officers. The Voyager-class is not designed for emergencies and cannot carry extra crew.

Length: 400 meters

Height: 150 meters

Phaser arrays: 10, most of which are located on the saucer, but there are about three on the engineering hull.

Torpedo Tubes: two, one forward-facing one aft.

Interesting Characteristics: She is an expansion of the Nova-Class, and has about the same characteristics as it's smaller cousin, but is generally larger and can sustain itself for far longer without support.

Other: The Waverider-shuttlecraft of the Nova class hasn't been included. Instead, a large sensor-array has taken its place, and has expanded its sensor range considerably, by which she will also be able to participate as a long-range scout vessel in combat.

This is my second design.

Class name: Syth.

Construction location: Secret section 31 installation deep in the Argonis nebula.

Construction date: 2432.

Ship Class Purpose: Infiltration and spec ops.

Officer Compliment: 50 section 31 personnel.

Length: 100.21 meters.

Height: 62.3 meters.

Phaser arrays: 4 type 10 forward arrays, 4 type 10 aft arrays, 12 type 12 phaser cannons whole ship coverage.

Torpedo Tubes: 2 forward quantum torpedo tubes, 2 aft quantum torpedo tubes,

Interesting Characteristics: Has a reversed engineered Romulan cloke, and an experimental phase cloke. has interrogation facilities on board, and a large holodeck to be used to trick or torcher captives into giving information.

Other: Is used by section 31 for travelling deep into enemy territory, gaining information, abducting threats for interrogation or otherwise. Mainly used as a base of operations in enemy space for long-term operations as it can stay in phase cloke for months, or used to steal or spy on possible threats.

Class name: Han Kote

Construction location: Utopia Planitia Yards

Construction date: 2427

Ship Class Purpose: Light Cruiser

Officer Compliment: 147 crew, with 8 officers, maximum evacuation capacity 623

Length: 286.35 meters

Width: 218.76 meters

Height: 66.83 meters

Phaser arrays: 4 cannons (all fore), 8 type 10 arrays (4 dorsal and 4 ventral), 2 point defense turrets (1 behind the bridge, 1 on top of the primary sensor array)

Torpedo Tubes: 3 quantum torpedo launchers, (2 fore, 1 aft), standard complement of 72 torpedoes

Shuttle Complement: 6 shuttle craft, 4 shuttle pods

Propulsion: 1 Warp Core (Cruising Warp 7, Maximum Warp 9.995), 2 Impulse Engines, 14 Thrusters, Transwarp Drive

Interesting Characteristics: The successes of the Defiant Class and its successors led to Starfleet Operations requesting a cruiser partially based on the prior’s hull design. What developed was a larger but less armored and less agile ship with far greater versatility in its mission profile. Both of the ship’s nacelles are joined to the hull by twin pylons and have large wing protrusions, allowing the ship to fly in atmosphere. It is one of the few ships in Starfleet capable of planetary landings and one of the first ships to carry its own transwarp drive for extremely long journeys or emergencies.

Other: The Han Kote Class can be a short-range exploration starship, survey ship, light escort, sector patrol craft, diplomatic transport, and much more. Starfleet Operations has agreed that the ship will eventually replace the very old Miranda Class, which has a similar mission profile and has seen service for 160 years as of the time of the Han Kote Class’ first commissioning.

Phaser arrays: 20 type 10 arrays ( 6 on the saucer, 6 on the secondary hull, 2 per pylon), 38 type 8 dual mount banks (19 weapon mounts, 7 on the saucer, 12 on the secondary hull), 6 type 11 arrays (all on the secondary hull), 20 point defense turrets (6 on the saucer, 14 on the secondary hull)

Torpedo Tubes: 16 photon torpedo tubes and 16 quantum torpedo tubes on quad-mount turrets (2 photon and 2 quantum tubes on each torpedo mount, 4 turrets on the saucer and 4 on the secondary hull), 4 tri-cobalt device launchers (2 fore, 2 aft)

Hangar Bays: 116 Work Bees, 62 shuttle craft, 86 shuttle pods, 186 Amur Class Fighters, 12 Gauntlet Class Frigates

Propulsion: 4 Warp Cores (Cruising Warp 6, Maximum Warp 9.75), 8 Impulse Engines, 88 Thrusters, Transwarp Drive

Interesting Characteristics: With the long series of conflicts which occurred during the course of the late 24th and early 25th centuries, Starfleet recognized the need for new spacecraft which could act as a mobile starbase and repair facility for their fleets. The ship has a primary saucer section shaped more like an arrow and a massive secondary hull. The Requiem class has several hangars, with its largest taking up 32.5% of the ship’s internal volume, accounting for its massive size. The docking ports for the Gauntlet Class Frigates are shaped to their hulls on the exterior of the ship, creating a series of bulges along the secondary hull. They feature an 8 nacelle design, with 2 nacelles being joined together on short pylons set at 40 degree angles from the horizonal axis of the ship. They have 38 science labs and enough supplies to last enable the ship to remain 30 years in deep space without resupply on a standard mission.

Other: Because of their scale and massive maintenance cost, including the fact they can’t effectively dock with any existing starbase at the time, only 4 ships of this class have been registered for construction: USS Requiem, USS Rebirth, USS Ascension, and USS Apotheosis. The Amur class fighters are descendants of the Peregrine class fighters and the Gauntlets are a smaller variation of the versatile Han Kote cruisers. Because of the ships' lengthy tours of duty, crew rotations are available annually with the Gauntlet Frigates ferrying crew and officers to and from home. This was a predecessor for the Universe Class ship.

Thanks, Asteropax, these ship designs are amazing, I especially like the Han Kote design because of how versatile it can be and how it will replace the very old Miranda. I also really like the Requiem design as I think Star Fleet could really use them, both are very detailed and just amazing.

I really like the idea of the Requiem, and I think that after the Odyssey, the Requiem might be the best ship to take on the mantle as the Enterprise-G.

That is an interesting idea but not really what I had in mind for a future Enterprise.

The Requiem class is more of a mobile starbase than an exploration cruiser like every other Enterprise. The ship design doesn't feel like an Enterprise with a number of the design features. I also brought up that ships of this class would be commanded by an admiral rather than a captain. Because of political sway from having being an admiral, commanding a starbase over a ship, and commanding the entire Federation's flagship, its best for the Enterprise to be commanded by a captain. Even when James T. Kirk became an admiral, all he ever wanted was the captain's chair. I'll think about a possible design for an Enterprise-G because the Requiem class doesn't feel right for such a lineage.

It would be a great idea for a design that could be the Enterprise-G, and also this is thread is not solely Star Fleet designs of the 24th-25th era, you can design ships for Romulans, Klingons or maybe TOS era... or even before the UFP. What I'm saying is that you have the free will to do whatever you can imagine.
