Very true and I agree. Yet, a cargo of weapons for a Bajoran-led terrorist cell to strike against cardassians would have one thing the Jem'Hadar wouldn't. Collusion. The ARES is large, a lot of cargo is being loaded marked as relief supplies. With the right people in the chain of custody of said cargo... as we all should know that some of the worst threats to security is the insider threat. Sensors could be manipulated or outright disabled enough to not send any red flags. Perhaps marked for 'maintenance required' as it would be an inconvenience (no sense of urgency). Stuff like that.

Granted, if this happens or happened, those who are in collusion could very well not see themselves as 'betraying' the Federation or their crew. As these weapons, in their eyes, are not earmarked to be used against the Federation or their fellow starfleet crew. These weapons are for the Bajorans to protect themselves against the cardassians, etc. Very murky waters. Federation/Starfleet would see the co-conspirators as criminals. The conspirators may see themselves as patriots and doing what they feel needs to be done to protect the Federation.

Add in the fact that most of the crew are new, and you have yourself a wealthy pool of plot and sub-plots to write about.

I see three missions for the Ares.

One, drop off supplies and help with making Cardassia somewhat self-sufficient again.

Win the people's trust by taking a few weeks to show Federation hospitality by helping the injured, creating new homes, general relief efforts, or other things.

Secure Cardassia space as it teems with Orions, Nausicans and Ferengi who are taking advantage of the logistical chaos.

I think we can expand on possible storylines, tell me what you think the Ares first tour in Cardassia should be like?

Wonderful points about the lawlessness likelihood in the space and trade lanes. Our resident pilots will have a wealth of story plot there with patrols, run-ins with small pirate/smuggler/criminal ships.

Medical and Engineering folks dealing with the hospitality parts, while Security dealing with mobs of desperate civilians while trying to piece together the larger threat of an Bajorian extremist and terrorist cell.

Add in a hidden or newly discovered fact that the colony has an untapped abundance of some raw industrial resource, which would bring in the political side for the Captain, First Officer, Diplomat, and Counselor to all deal with. Especially, if the Bajorans are maneuvering to take administrative control of this "Neighboring" system. The bajorans knew about this resource perhaps as some of them worked as slaves in that mine? Nevertheless, some Bajoran powerbroker didn't want to disclose the knowledge of the resource less the Federation step in and bar the broker his greed.

All the while, the few cardassians (possibly former administrators, managers, or engineers of said resource) in the know, do not want to disclose and actively work to keep it a secret. They would be worried that if some faction or power knew about it, they would lose their independence or lose control of this resource by outright take-over, under the war reparations treaty, etc. The fact that they would lose control of it is the fear. As they see it as the only hope for their future survival and self-sufficiency.

You and I think alike on the whole idea of the CTO (me) being a very busy writer; I have several subplots in mind which I've brought up to the admin on the subject and they're very similar to what you've talked about.

That is a good catch, we already have an executive officer listed, played by deuZige, and I haven't seen Nesta signed up for anything yet with the role play until now. From my view point, his request to be the first officer is "out of the blue" so hopefully that gets addressed ASAP. We can't have 2 executive officers.

If he wants to sign up to be an additional tactical or science officer, since we only have the chief officers so far, that would work very nicely.

Look at it this way, we're all working on developing this story together. We deserve to know what is going on when a major change is occurring. A character getting replaced is a major change.

Why are you replacing our current executive officer, who has been around for weeks now, without any alerting to the rest of us or giving some background information as to why the change is taking place?

deuZige has been MIA for a while now, and has not responded to several mails, so we have decided to switch XO's, so we at least have an active XO when the story truly starts. If deuZige returns, he'll be able to take a position as squadron XO, since we still need one. This was all discussed and planned in the Ares Roleplay command, and it was agreed to by Eaglesg and Allan Hood, as well as myself.
