First of all: Welcome to all the new recruits! We're soooooo glad to have you with us! We're going to have adventures so awesome, the word awesome feels unfit to be used to indicate the awesomeness of them!

Any tips or anything like that would be very welcomed!

Most important one, in my humble opinion, is to have fun! Second one is don't underestimate yourself. If you have an idea, just climb in your keyboard and go for it! If you're not sure if something is going to work or not, just ask me, Allan or Eaglesg or [TAG] us and make it a joint post.

I better get started on mine too. As creative as I can be with various ship designs, characters are always more difficult for me to develop and I completely forgot about it until now.

I have a couple of questions about setting everything up:

We have a nice background on what we will be doing on our voyage but any guidelines for our characters' backstories?

Are we doing this in sessions, as in event meetups, to continue the story or ongoing forum posts?

Eaglesg has made the guidelines you ask for already

They are under character Bios.

And if you are having difficulty with your character you can always do what I do and try to base it on myself (that way when it comes to lore and backstory I already can put together a good story) or base it off someone else, whether it be in your personal life or a character from another franchise you like!

We're staying away from the novels, what you'd find on Memory Beta. Everything else should be fair game.

As long as the backstories don't violate canon, everything should be cool.

What do you mean by sessions? Meetups? We are aiming to post weekly, but we aren't expected to post all at the same time, if that's what you mean.

We'll be tagging each other in if your part of the story involves another person. If I wanted to involve you, I'd write something like...
TAG (your character name)

It makes sense, just haven't done role play in this format before. I played D&D for a few years so was used to live meetings and games. It'll be different but I'm sure I'll get the hang of it once we get going. I'm a fast learner.

As for the not violating of canon, i think that the squadron commander i created gives everyone an idea of how stretchable this can be.
(I think i pushed its very boundaries with my Pendari's backstory though )

I did so intentionally to show that though the canon does limit you somewhat you're still quite free to be creative with it. Sometimes people i played with in the past dropped wonderful exciting ideas for their characters affraid it violated continuity while they didn't need to.

And to add to the info about the formatting of the posts, i think the old Ares guide is not sufficient for the way we play. Here's some additional guidelines (ie. not laws! anyone comes up with better suggestions, let us know.):

Formatting JP's

Ensuring Joint Posts are properly formatted and the proper tags are applied is a lot more important than it looks. A Joint Post that is formatted properly can give readers and your fellow writers a clearer image of what's going on. A post with poor formatting can not only break immersion, but can also result in confusion in some cases. The following tags should be applied in JP's to make sure they're as clear as can be!

=== Locations===
A location (E.G. ===Bridge===) should be present at the beginning of a post to show where the scene is starting. The location may change throughout the post, and every time it does it should be marked in the same way.


Normal Text
Any text in a post which includes a characters actions, etc. is considered normal text, and doesn't need to be marked in any particular way.


"Speaking"
Whenever a character is communicating verbally, it is to be marked out with quotation marks. Anyone within earshot of the character can hear this.


=^= Comm Speaking =^=
This indicates that someone is remotely speaking via comm (another place on the ship/station, a friend or foe on another ship, etc).


~"Thinking"~
There should be a special tag, typically used with tildes, when someone is thinking something rather than speaking aloud.


*"Computer Confirms"*
Some other format should be used to signal the computer is doing something, like chirping, processing, or speaking. This is sometimes used with the tildes as with 'thinking', but should be clear in surrounding narrative as well.

As stated previously, these are OOC tags to indicate that a particular person is expected to type a response, reaction, etc. where the tag is located.
